It has two parts in which the first part poses the research question while the second part of the title provides insight about the source of data for the research. The research explores factors that contribute to effective communication in nursing contexts. To obtain relevant information for the study, nurse educators and clinicians are engaged. Therefore, the title is informative in that it provides an overview of the research purpose and the source of data.
The Department of Health [DH] [2001] explained that communication comprises of a number of skills used to promote professional practice. These skills will be identified and used appropriately to promote the outcome of the patients care. This writer will use some of these communication skills to demonstrate the impact on the care nurses provide in line with the NMC standard and good record keeping will be discussed as a factor that is essential in effective communication practice. Also, the concept of communication in collaborative work and how it influences the works of nurses through verbal and non-verbal means of expressions in building therapeutic relationship by active listening, respect and assertiveness will be looked into as well as the barriers of communication in nursing practice. Communication is the transmission of information from a sender through a channel to a receiver, it can either be verbal or non-verbal means of communication.
The roles of nurses in each phase of the nursing process will be discussed. Skills and qualities of nurses in delivering quality care, evidence-based practice, multi-disciplinary team approach, and effective communication will also be considered in relation to nursing process. ASSESSMENT Assessment is the first step of the nursing process. It is defined by Carpenito-Moyet (2007) as an organised technique to collect information about a patient from different sources. In this phase, evidence of the problem and risks for problems are being examined.
Reflective Journal Albert Johann Jacildo February 19, 2015 Critical Thinking for Nurses Ethics is an integral part of the foundation of nursing. According to the CNO, “Understanding and communicating beliefs and values helps nurses to prevent ethical conflicts and to work through them when they do occur”. My thoughts and ideas about nursing ethics has changed, as I gain more experience, it gives me a clearer view of the importance of having a professional code of ethics. Having a code of ethics makes explicit of my primary goals, values, and obligations of my profession. It is really imperative that I must consider the ethical aspects when formulating planning outcomes and goals for each of my clients.
Today, considerable focus in nursing science has been on integration of knowledge into practice, largely with increased attention to evidence based practice and translation research (McEwen & Willis, 2014). There are different types of nursing theories and these theories are developed for the purpose of explaining and describing nursing care. Examples include; Environment theory, Interpersonal theory, Adaptation theory, Goal Attainment theory, etc. I have chosen to focus on Dorothea Orem’s self-care theory for the purpose of this paper in which I will analyze the importance of nursing theory and highlight the key ideas of the self-care theory. Importance of Nursing Theory Nursing theory provides the foundation for nursing research which develops nursing practice.
Introduction Therapeutic communication is the corner stone of good practice and paramount to the provision of good care. Doheny et al. (2007) observed that when certain skills are used to facilitate communication between nurse and client in a goal directed manner,the therapeutic communication process occurs. According to McCabe (2004) patient centred communication is a basic component of nursing and facilitates the development of a positive nurse - patient relationship. Nurses have a great opportunity to shape the future of the nursing practice through therapeutic communication Armold&Boggs, (2011).

The scholarship of knowing seeks to build on the current foundation of nursing knowledge through the identification and research of health issues. The APN scholarship of teaching assimilates new and existing knowledge, and transfers this information from expert to novice, teacher to student, and healthcare provider to the patient. The APN may teach by role modeling, or mentoring of students and new nurses.
