Educational Assistants in the classroom can make a difference. The number of students in the educational systems has increased greatly over the past few years. A larger population of students in schools means the need for Educational Assistants has risen to help students improve their literacy skills, numeracy skills and social skills. Students have shown that children benefit greatly when their literacy skills are reviewed and reinforced. An Educational Assistant follows the teacher’s lesson plan closely only adding select tools to assist with the child’s understanding of the material. By reviewing and reinforcing the basic concepts of literacy an Educational Assistant can increase a child’s confidence. This enables the child to become more successful in reading and comprehension. Therefore, an Educational Assistant can be pleased that he/she has helped to improve the child’s attitude toward reading. Numeracy can be quite overwhelming for a student who has difficulties understanding the basic language of mathematics. With an Educational Assistant present within a classroom it can prove be a positive resource available to the student. The significance of numeracy goes well beyond the classroom. It is important that the Educational Assistant convey a positive message to the student so that the student feels comfortable expressing his/her concerns for mathematics. By allow a child this opportunity the student and the Educational Assistant receive satisfaction that their message has been heard. A child’s social skills are mostly taught or learned. In today’s world the majority of children gain these special skills by interacting with others within their peers through play. Other children require some guidance.
