Community partnerships is another method used by police in order to ensure a good relationship with members of the general public. The way this is done is through a process of consultation and mobilization. Consultaion works by providing citizens with information about crime and what can be done to prevent it. Also this gives citizens the chance to voice their concerns about crime and tell the police what they think about the job they are doing. Mobilization works by giving members of the community a chance to actively deter crime by being involved with such programs as Neighborhood Watch, Operation ID, or Crime Stoppers.
Victims include not only those directly affected by the offense, but also family members and members of the affected community. The safety, support, and needs of these victims are the starting points for any restorative justice process. Thus a primary objective is to attend to victims' needs, material, financial, emotional, and social needs. Restitution is the restoring of person. A restorative justice process also aims to empower victims to participate effectively in dialogue or mediation with offenders.
for the maintenance of public order, safety, health, morals, etc. The United States Department of Justice has defined police and community relations as a philosophy that “focuses on crime and social disorder through the delivery of police services that includes aspects of traditional law enforcement, as well as prevention, problem-solving, community engagement, and partnerships. (Docobo, 2005) The future of police-community relations I believe rests on organizing and developing special officers in permanent areas, where they can operate as community based problem solvers. By providing these community officers the opportunity to interact with the same people on a face to face basis each day, this approach allows citizens to give input about what needs to be taken care of. People would have the chance to help set local police priorities and to develop creative solutions to community problems.
Community-oriented policing supports the organized use of partnerships and problem-solving methods. The use of these methods addresses the urgent circumstances that give progress to public safety issues. These issues can be described as fear of crime, crime, and social disorder. The meaning behind community-oriented policing is where encouraged and inspired citizen’s work in a positive and equal partnership with the police for crime problem solving, disorder, deterioration and value of life. The nature and quantity of police roles is extended with the use of community-oriented policing compared to traditional policing.
d. Historically, females have been most often victimized by someone they knew. e. Females who are 20-24 years of age are at the greatest risk of nonfatal intimate partner violence. f. Most cases of domestic violence are never reported to the police. --National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV.org) II. The NCADV describes domestic violence as the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior perpetrated by an intimate partner against another.
The answer depends on the belief that people deserve input into the police process, in exchange for their participation and support. It also depends on the belief that solutions to today's community problems demand both on the people of the community and the police to explore creative, new ways to address community problems beyond a narrow focus on individual crimes. While traditional methods of policing fail to provide desired levels of crime control and public safety. Police departments across the country still search for new ways to provide law enforcement services to their communities. In recent years, community-oriented policing has emerged as the method of choice for many police forces.
Battering is the single major cause of injury to women, more significant that auto accidents, rapes, or muggings. In fact, the emotional and psychological abuse inflicted by batterers may be more costly to treat in the short-run than physical injury. Many of the physical injuries sustained by women seem to cause medical difficulties as women grow older. Arthritis, hypertension and heart disease have been identified by battered women as directly caused or aggravated by domestic violence suffered early in their adult lives. The only way for you to break the cycle of domestic violence is to take action, and the sooner you it the better.
1. In a Community Oriented Policing environment, it is important for officers engage in community building. Explain the elements of community organizing and various obstacles police may face in attempting to do so. (Thurman & McGarrell, pages 96 – 101) Thurman and McGarrell explain that community organizing is planned attempts to alter neighborhood interactional patterns in order to make communities stronger and to solve community problems. One of the elements of community organizing is the locality development, which is known as an attempt to create new, problem-solving people such as board committees and councils within that community.
The objective for law enforcement administrators is to make out the most excellent approach to deal with the increasingly shifting crime troubles in the population they provide assistance for, and to relate the fitting idea in the shape of efficient plans (Community Policing, n.d). Community oriented policing, problem oriented policing and zero tolerance policing are popular policing methods being utilized today. These policies have their pros and cons but they also have some similarities and seem to be of equal importance. The common similarity they all share is that they are all attempting to diminish crime and provide a safe environment for community members. It would be difficult to have one solitary plan or technique to aid in dealing with community issues therefore communities may find it necessary to seek out multiple methods of policing to satisfy their inhabitants.
This is a supporting document to support my power point presentation. I have also witnessed the supporting organizations working. I went to the Liverpool crown court and community justice centre where organizations where in the courts to advise and help the offenders in reducing any crimes or reoffending. There are many strategies, teams and organisations that work to reduce crime, disorder and antisocial behaviour. Reducing crime and any behaviour like this will enable people to feel closer as a community as well as feeling safer and protected.
