Differences Between The Four Mexican American Groups

My research this evening is about the differences between four Hispanic American groups. My information will cover the differences in language, politics, social, economic, religious, and familial conventions. In the United States people often label anyone of the Hispanic ethnicity, Mexicans. People see the dark hair and dark skin and they never stop and consider they may be Puerto Rican or even Cuban. My paper this evening will hopefully explain the differences between each of the four Hispanic American groups I have chosen. First you have the Mexican American ethnicity which I know from personal experience are religious and very family oriented. Approximately 75 percent of the Mexican American population are of the Catholic faith, and in the southwestern United Sates over two-thirds of the Catholics are Mexican or Mexican Americans (Julian Samora, A History of the Mexican-American People, p.232). They have a few religious festivals and rituals such as the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe which is celebrated on December 12th. The festival celebrates the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to a changed Christian Indian. Then you have the celebration 9 days before Christmas called “Las Posadas” which honors the arrival of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. Costa Rica is located in the southern end of Central America and bordered to the north by Nicaragua and to the south by Panama. Their language is a bit different from Spanish because they often end a Spanish word with “ico” or “ica”. Costa Rican Spanish is also identified by a soft pronounced double “r”.
