Society is continuously surrounded by actions that are believed to be outside of good standards. Such violations from the good standards are caused by individuals who commit unexpected behaviors that can lead to criminal actions if such individual is caught by others who are believed to be superior and capable of exposing the deviant individual to the public. According to Rubington and Weinberg, “Deviance implies an alleged breach of social norm.” (2008). I agree with Rubington and Weinberg because people who commit deviant behavior entail suspected violations which are outside of social standard. I was fortunate to have an opportunity to work with great co-workers and helping children from disadvantage backgrounds that are in need of a mentor and a voice to help them in court and school. My first interview with the agency occurred two years ago when I was seeking an opportunity to volunteer to help others. I was greeted with great gratitude by the staff mainly composed of women from various racial backgrounds. My job title in this agency is assistant to office staff and volunteer to children in foster care system. The agency is dedicated to find a volunteer age twenty-one and older with a reliable transportation and no criminal background, for children in the foster system. As I previously mentioned, I tend to read numerous of case files because reading such materials with interesting and fascinating stories, arouses my curiosity to learn more about each child in our case loads. My intentions are not to hurt other individuals because I share their life stories with strangers and friends, I only want to learn more about the criminal justice system and how I can learn to prepare for the field. Although, I am not sharing the names of the individuals in the files, if any of my supervisor in the agency surprises me in public with the information I could lose my job and trust from other agencies. Writing about deviant acts in workplace was interesting and difficult for me because I never imagine sharing my deviant acts with someone else. The fear I have of losing my job because of the minor theft and reading of confidential files grows daily as I continue with such behavior. I never consider such acts to be didn’t until the writing of the assignment begin. I hope in
