It was a night to remember for the rookies. Entering a two-game road stand against their New York neighbors Fordham (1-4-0) and Columbia (1-2-0), the Red Storm (3-3-0) would need all the help from their rising freshman class to bounce back from a two-game losing streak – and they would deliver. Seeking the first score, it would only take five minutes for the Red Storm to get on the board early off a corner kick. Junior Morgan Ritter played in the corner attempt kept alive by midfielders Amy Marron and Deanna Murino after a failed clearing attempt by the Rams. Not until the 77th minute on a counter attack. Ritter, from opposite-field played a through-hole pass to Cubbage who broke away from her defender down field. From 14-yards out, Cubbage finessed a high-arcing chip shot landing behind the goalkeeper into the far corner of the net for her second goal. Cubbage, with her team-leading third goal of the season and her second-game winner, helped seal the win for the Red Storm over their Bronx-neighbor at Coffey Field. “Before today, we’ve been playing Emily sort of out of her usual position to fill the spots we needed with our injuries. But Emily is so versatile that you can play her in a number of different positions and she will do whatever you need,” said Coach Stone. “We needed her to score.
