Personal Narrative: A Basketball Player's Life

My whole life I have been the star of my basketball team always leading them to greatness. I have always been the captain of my team and the role model my teammates look up to. In late game situations, they always put the ball in my hands and I always get us the win. I was on top of the world, thought I could do no wrong. Than the championship game of my 6th grade year happened. The date was March 3, 2009 and it was the championship game at Valley Catholic in Portland. My team came into this game undefeated in the season. We were the team favored to win. We were playing St. Johns and they matched up well to us. We had a good game on our hands. Me, personally, thought nothing of this game, like this is just another game for me to dominate.…show more content…
Thats when St. Johns made its comeback. They tied the game and that is when my coach put me back in the game. There was about 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter when I came back in. Both us and St. Johns were on fire making every single basket. The clock was winding down and the game was still tied. There was ten seconds left in the game and my coach called a timeout. We had the ball at half court and my coach drew up a play for me. My teammate in bounded the ball to me and all I saw was just me and the basket. The clock was winding down and the game was all in my hands. I dribble to the basket and I am wide open. I shoot and nothing but net, I made the shot. Little to my knowledge I found out I shot at the wrong basket and put the other team up by two with one second left. The game was all over and I just gave the other team the winning basket. I have never been so mortified in my life. There I was on top of the world, thought I could do no wrong, and then I fall off in a second. From then it really hit me that I will not always be the best and I will mess up. How I can learn from my mistakes and not just blame people for my wrong doings. It made me realize I am not perfect and how I need to share the ball more with my teammates. Not did that moment make me a better player but also made me a better person in
