Evaluate which is more valuable to the president the EXOP or the cabinet (30) The President has two organisations at his disposal in order to help him with the running of the country; the first is the Executive Office of the President (EXOP), which consists of the immediate staff of the current President of the United States and multiple levels of support staff reporting to the President. The EXOP is headed by the White House Chief of Staff, which is currently Denis McDonough. The size of the White House staff has increased dramatically since 1939, and has grown to include approximately 4,000 policy experts in various fields. The second is the Cabinet, which is composed of the most senior appointed officers of the executive branch of the federal government, who are generally the heads of the federal executive departments, although the Vice President and the US Ambassador to the UN are also present, as are other non-department heads. Since the cabinet members are in charge of huge departmental budgets such as the Department of Health with Sylvia Burwell, the Department of Defence with Ashton Carter, the Department of Justice with Eric Holder and the US Department of State with John Kerry have colossal amounts of importance, due to the significance of their departments, and the importance that the budgets of these departments are constantly flowing to make sure the government runs smoothly, and since the Affordable Care act of 2010 has made the Department of Health even more important as this has increased the US’s spending on health care which will rise to $170bn by 2020.
In the case of the modern military, we find an interesting challenge. Just how does society fill the ranks? This problem is further complicated by vacillation in the perceived importance of the institution as well as economic woes. Financial constraints both
(Lockheed Martin Corporation History, 1996). This second graph as you can see is showing how Lockheed Martin Corporation has grown and has dominated in the defense area over the last four years and are at just mid line with the civilian departments. What is really interesting is that all of these divisions have different kinds of awards and they are both taking direct and indirect cost in different ways. However, I had to choose the shortest and straight to the point examples because they have so many contracts and deal in so many ways from firm-fixed price, cost reimbursement, cost-plus-fixed-fee, etc. One situation was the Lockheed Martin Corporation v. United States of America in 9/29/09 which is based on an indirect cost.
Ryan collected many personal recollections from American, British, Canadian, French, and German participants. Using vivid descriptive prose and the words of the soldiers and civilians themselves, Ryan paints a huge panoramic view of the greatest amphibious operation in history. The Normandy invasion is still the largest operation of its type ever launched, and only the canceled invasion of Japan would have dwarfed it. To mount Operation Overlord, the Allies gathered nearly 5,000 ships of every size and type, ranging from battleships to landing craft, infantry ship-to-shore vessels. Behind the first few thousand men waited 200,000 more troops with their weapons and thousands of tanks, artillery pieces, half-tracks, jeeps, and "deuce-and-a-half" trucks, and in the British Isles another 3 million men waited their turn to go into the fray.
Giving examples explain how superpowers can exert their influence (10marks) The term superpower is defined as being a country with dominant global political and economic influence. In the last 20 years new global powers have emerged (Brazil, Russia, India and china, known as the BRIC’s) and can exert their influence all around the world. For example, Russia, which most of its economy relies on oil exports, Russia has developed important export partnerships to the east and to the west. Russia depends on the European market to buy 80% of its oil exports, but the USA is keen to become a buyer and China’s demand for oil is ever growing. This means that without Russia all these countries will not get the supplies and resources that they need.

The United States [officially] entered Afghanistan on October 7, 2001 (Wintour) and [officially] entered Iraq on March 20, 2003 (Pollack). Despite being two years younger than the War in Afghanistan, the Iraq War had a troop surge first. In 2007, the US increased the troops levels in Iraq by 20,000 and its funds for reconstruction programs by $1.2 billion (United States, The White House Military Office). In contrast, the conflict in Afghanistan is currently having a troop surge with an additional 33,000 troops. Furthermore, at the end of both conflicts, the War in Afghanistan’s price tag will be twice that of the Iraq War (Barnes).
Four of the 25 largest global companies are American computer companies (Apple, Microsoft, IBM and Dell), which highlights how America is using its technological advancement to spread its culture. Another example of culture being used to increase superpower status is the British influence over colonial India. Control of India was intensified by the acculturalisation that was undertaken, with British traditions such as cricket and the English language being introduced to the country. The military is a strong factor in determining superpower status. Countries that have the greatest military power, have major influence in determining political power, for example UN, which has a security council; made up of five permanent members (the USA, the UK, China, Russia and France) and 10 non-permanent members.
His more famous name, Publicola, meant ‘friend of the people’,” [5] By April 1788 the men had published seventy-seven of The Federalist essays. All three authors drew on their experiences in national politics and the military. The two main authors, Hamilton and Madison, were a key part of the activities leading to the Federal Convention and the drafting of the Constitution. In fact all three of these men went on to great things. James Madison became the fourth President of the United States and is considered the father of the Constitution; Alexander Hamilton was part of George Washington’s cabinet as the first Secretary of the Treasury, in this position he formed economic policy for the United States that is still used today; and John Jay was
They lived in an old military fort, an appropriated by the federal government, while they were engaged in the construction of a modern building, designed to hold 1,200 men. These three institutions made up the entire system for many years. They gradually became heavily overcrowded when new laws, such as the Volstead Act in 1918, which introduced Prohibition, caused the federal population to grow exponentially. In response to the increased numbers of federal offenders of both sexes, Federal Prison Camp Alderson, the first women’s prison, was opened in 1928, and Alcatraz, commonly viewed as a precursor to today’s super maximum secure facilities, followed in 1934. Within 10 years of the creation of the Bureau of Prisons, the federal prison population and the number facilities bad almost doubled.
