English 131-21 “Deception In A Profile Picture” When you go on any online dating website, one of the first things you will see is somebodies profile picture. If you keep looking, eventually you will see someone that you find attractive, and then you will contact that person for a potential date. That is one of the fundamental flaws of online dating right there. When a person goes to an online dating website, they are obviously having problems finding someone. So, looking online for the best looking man or woman isn’t going to help them find a significant other. People who go online to date need to be more focused on personality and other things rather than who has the best looking pictures. And when you add in the fact that most of these pictures are fake or heavily edited, it really makes online photos useless. There are also people who don’t even post pictures at all, and they are still getting dates. That’s why it is irrelevant to have a prospective date to post a photo online. There are people who just strictly stick to traditional dating, because of deception. Like in Newman’s journal “Issue For Critical Thinking And Debate: Online Dating,” when he talks about, a female freshman who views computer dating with fear, and prefers old-fashion dating (488). This young lady would rather see whom she is talking to in person; rather than meet someone online, only to find out they were a fake person. You would have a better chance of a successful relationship, if you met a person online with no picture and shares a good percentage of your interest. Than meeting a person who has an online photo that you like. In which the photo is mostly likely old, heavily edited or simply fake. And when you add in the fact that you don’t have nearly as many things in common, as the person without a photo. Which person would be the better candidate for a date with you? It is
