Although there has been a decrease in violent crime, it is still a huge problem nationwide that needs to be under more control. What causes a person to become criminal is a question that many theorists would love to fully understand. In the past, criminologists believed that people were simply born criminals. Today, there are several theories on why people commit crimes.
In some states, the individual must be convicted of two serious felonies for the three strikes law to apply, while in others any felonies count towards the third strike. Critics of the three strike law express many strong arguments against their harsh legal statute. Our society has ultimately had an issue with the three strikes law. Many times, when a police officer is accused of police brutality, they are immediately put on suspension. Within the terms of their suspension, either an outside agency or internal affairs department does an investigation determining what may have happened. This would typically include interviewing potential witnesses, determining what happened, and putting the pieces together.
One example of facial expressions would be chin thrusts, a gesture associated with anger. Federal officials in the real world are trained by Ekman to understand these facial expressions and what emotion they produce. If someone doesn’t want to talk, they are simply told to keep talking to them and read their facial reactions to the statements or questions. Now this leads to some questions like, “what does this mean for civil rights?” or, “does reading emotions invade a person’s privacy?” Real world courtrooms may come to a conclusion on whether or not this is invading a person’s rights, but for now, Ekman and Lightman will both continue to solve crimes based on body
