(www.agentinsure.com) To counterbalance this dangerous activity, drivers need to become more conscious of their personal responsibility to be a defensive driver. Martin Gottfried, in his essay “Rambos of the Road,” states that “there has recently been an epidemic of auto macho – a competition perceived and expressed in driving.” (500) There are many types of aggressive driving, such as, speeding, racing, frequently changing lanes, cutting off other drivers, failing to signal, running red lights, failing to yield, tailgating, slowing rapidly to discourage a tailgater, etc…The list is long. Many people probably drive aggressively and are not even aware of it. Aggressive driving can be caused by multiple things such as, weather conditions, wet roads, impatience, traffic, or trying to save time. All of these things can irritate even the best of drivers, and cause them to make poor decisions on the road.
Driving while being distracted by other things is a dangerous risk most drivers choose to take every day. I found Barry’s essay “Driving while stupid” to be very effective in giving detailed examples of people driving dangerously. By him adding humor to his essay, I felt was a great way for him to get his point across and to keep the readers interest on such a serious topic. The point Barry was trying to make about some drivers is how they have “insane driving techniques” (Barry, 2011, p. 584) such as driving way to fast, not using the headlights at night, and having things distracting the drivers view. Barry also adds that “drivers do not have time for steering, as they are busy making phone calls, eating, reading, changing CDs, putting on makeup, brushing their teeth, etc.” (Barry, 2011, p.584).
They also bring up the issue of the deceit and lies the network tells, seeing as their motto is that they are “Fair and balanced” and they are anything but. Outfoxed shows this using video footage of an anonymous caller to show how he was blackmailed, and the use of repetition of the lines “Fair and balanced” whenever they reported on only one side of the story. This furthers the idea that Fox are deceitful. The film Outfoxed shows these issues in a way which makes the audience feel hurt and deceived by the Fox news network. While this is being said, it also causes to audience to question the reliability of the film as they to are doing the same thing that they are reprimanding Fox about.
After a moment, the hitchhiker commented that he liked the song that was playing on the radio, which was a country song. The police gave a disbelieving chuckle. After a few moments, the hitchhiker shook his head and chuckled when he noticed a religious ornament on the police officer’s dashboard. The police officer asked what he was laughing at, and the hitchhiker just replied “people”. I assume the police officer thought he referring to white people, because he quickly got angry and pulled the car over, yelling at the hitchhiker to get out.
Trevor Edwards Funny People Funny People, directed by Judd Apatow, was, to me, not as funny as I expected based on the title of the movie. There were definitely some funny parts, but overall, I thought the movie was more on the serious/drama side of genres rather than comedy. I think maybe Judd Apatow named the movie Funny People, and then made it more as a serious movie, on purpose. I believe this could be showing the difference of the film genre and genre film. When I saw previews of Funny People on TV, the advertising made me believe that it was going to be a comedy.
Distracted driving is a growing and dangerous problem in today’s society that leads to accidents causing serious permanent injuries and even death. Distracted driving is the act of driving while engaged in other activities such as texting, talking on the phone or to a passenger that draws the driver's attention away from the road. All drivers need to be aware of distracted driving and take steps to minimize the risk to themselves and others. I’m asking you today to listen to the statistics and decide for yourself whether that one phone call, text message, or glance in the mirror is worth the cost of a human life. Statistics show that young people like you are the ones that engage the most to this dangerous
Taking in the situation and seeing that “Sycamore Pharmaceuticals to come under fire for promoting its popular rheumatoid arthritis drug, Osteoporin, for the treatment of other diseases like Crohn’s disease and lupus”. (Daft, R.L.) John Blake, a worker of Sycamore Pharmaceuticals, is faced with telling the truth to the Food and Drug Administration or to continue to lie for the company. There are many things I would suggest to John Blake and the first thing would to be honest with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) because keeping your morals straight will also look better. It is possible for John to be penalized or he could lose his employment with the company.
Why We Crave Horror Movies 1 April 2011 Crazy, Insane? We’re not out of our minds because we go watch a horror film. Its one of the things us humans do to get out of the complacency of our own everyday lives. So we want to feel our hearts race a little bit, and feel better about our lives when we see a character on the screen get their head smashed in, or get eaten by flesh hungry zombies. Whether we watch a horror film, play a video game were we have to kill the enemy, or race down a road at 160 mph while cops are chasing you, or even join a fantasy football or baseball team to fulfill that void in our lives.
Now, the main concern rests upon the decision of open this new market channel that actually was once active in 1920 but since then Goodyear has worked all the way independently. The reconsideration is now seen as a likely option but it entails also some deep concerns about the future of franchised dealers arguing that this agreement will only undermine their sales and in order to compensate for this they will be forced to start selling multiple brands that offer customers all the benefits they want even if it’s not from Goodyear. Alternatives There are two alternatives for this process or either the company decides to start selling in company of mass merchandisers, retails stores, in this case, accepting the offer from Sears. Or, the company decides to stay idle and keep losing revenues from these previously mentioned stores due to loyalty of its customers and availability of other brands in their stores. First Alternative Going alone with consistent market share loss of 32% according to Kerin and Peterson (2013, p.604) it is important for our posterior analysis that this was equal to a loss of 4.9 million units not sold worldwide.
Moore persuades his audiences by saying as a society; we tend to forget what the outcome is when big corporations decide to fire workers because the CEO wants more for their salary. Analogy, argumentation, and personal anecdotes are some methods Moore uses to demonstrate to his audiences. Moore uses analogy throughout his essay by comparing crack to downsizing by GM and big companies like “AT&T, and GE.” The CEO states, “A company must be able to do whatever it wants to make a profit.” This shows that any company will do anything it needs to do to make a profit whether it’s ruining lives or communities. Moore suggests that General Motors sell crack. “But Crack is illegal!” you say.
