The Spread of Islam Islam expanded greatly in the 600’s and 700’s and has developed great attention. There have been many people who believe one thing and many believe the other, but Islam spread through three important reasons: conversion, conquest, and interaction with other groups (cultural interaction). Islam transferred many people using conversion by, mostly likely, expanding the truth, but mainly by forcing them (doc: 1, 2, 5, 8). Muhammad says that you must believe in his ways of he will force you and make you pay tribute; if you obey the Lord Muhammad he will defend you. If not, he will fight against you, kidnap the young, and kill the elder. Muhammad is making you switch by force and then after he will reward you, and he does this to keep them with him (doc 1). Muhammad, he founder of Islam, uses conversion by force to make his religion big and powerful. Document 2 states that if you obey God he will bring you to the Gardens of Paradise, and who doesn’t obey him, will be punished. He used this to convince other people to switch for a good after life, which is an important thing to them (doc 2). This document suggests that there are options to conversion depending on the religion of the people facing conversion. Muhammad respected “People of the Book” and did not force them into their religion, but they still had to pay tribute. The conversion, though, was required because they had wars against unbelievers. I would not trust this document though, for it is one sided. He is favoring the Qur’an (doc 5). As I stated above, they spread through conquest which is one of the hardest way to receive but easiest to believe (doc 5, 6, 7, 8). The Muslims simply fought their enemies, or their disbelievers.
