Cultural Stereotypes In my opinion cultural stereotyping is a part of human nature. At least once in every person’s life they have experienced a situation of being stereotyped or stereotyping another individual. There has been many situations that has made media due to stereotype situations. In most cases the outcomes of being stereotyped can end in a negative situation, where people can be hurt in the process. Recalling a time I was being stereotyped was when I was in the grocery store shopping for an upcoming family cookout. Once I was done shopping my cart was overfilled with groceries. After the cashier finished ringing up my groceries she informed me that the total was two hundred and fifty five dollars and then proceeded to ask me if I would be paying with E.B.T. food stamps. Growing up in a small town keep me in a box when it came to learning about other culturals as a child. When growing up it only made me assume something about a person or a group because of my environment. I can remember attending school with a girl that dressed in all black including her hair, her make-up, and her finger nails, and I immediately thought that she was gothic. In my mind gothics wear all black and they are depressed and have low self-esteem. When getting to know the girl she had a bright personality and was very out spoken. Stereotyping is everywhere is a part of our surroundings. It is important to get to know a person before assuming something about the individual or group. Opening our minds can be insightful. We all have experienced stereotyping in our lives and only we can change that about
