Even though there were negative effects, his assassination also led to positive immediate effects such as the Poor People’s Campaign, and the improvement of the Civil Rights Act 1968. The long term impacts of his death were the social improvement of the Civil Rights Act 1968, the African-Americans are now being respected, and the effect of Martin Luther King Day. After the assassination Martin Luther King his supporters showed grief and rage towards his death. The outpouring grief and rage led to the 1968 Chicago riot. The riot started in the black ghetto on the west side of Chicago.
Take for example the two earthquakes that affected Northridge and Haiti. The Northridge earthquake that hit California in 1994 had a magnitude of 6.7 and killed 57 people. Whereas the Haiti earthquake in 2010 was magnitude 7 and killed 300 000 people. These two case studies emphasize the stark differences in vulnerability between two populations. Although building and infrastructure damage was extreme in both the Haiti and Northridge events, the impact of this damage could not be more different.
Levees Breached: Who was responsible for Maintenance? Six years ago, Hurricane Katrina ripped through the Gulf Coast, the Louisiana wetlands breaching levees and canals, and filled the bowl of New Orleans with water. When the levees breached over the lower 9th ward, many residents said it sounded like an explosion and many believe that was history repeating it from the 1927 bombing of the levees and from Hurricane Betsy in 1965. When one is asked who is responsible for the levees, two groups are considered responsible Orleans Levee Board and the U.S Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) but most of the blame goes to USACE. But one thing is for sure whoever was/is responsible should know that the disaster of Hurricane Katrina has been 40 years
Some of the disasters ranged from tidal waves, tornadoes, floods, fires, earthquakes, fuel spills, and even HIV. For example, during his first voyage, if the captains led the ships astray, God would create a storm or an incident to reroute them. God would do this because He knew His plan for America. This was also shown through the trials and adventures experienced by the Pilgrims, Puritans, and George Washington. Manuel and Marshall used reporting history and story telling to share with the readers the history of our country. Manuel and Marshall express imagery, tone, and appeal to the reader’s emotions.
August 29, 2005 is a day New Orleans, Louisiana and the nation will never forget. This was the day a hurricane by the name of Katrina made landfall. The tragedy was not the fact that the city was now under water, the tragedy followed in the days, weeks and months to follow. The aftermath of Katrina shows the public how federal, state and local governments can fail a community during a disaster when needed the most. According to Bergal & Hiles (2007), “official records show that while Katrina was a strong Category 3 hurricane when it slammed into the Gulf Coast near the Mississippi-Louisiana border, by the time it blew over the city of New Orleans, the winds had weakened considerably.” This national disaster could have been prevented if someone would have pushed harder to have more funding to have the levees made stronger on the federal, state and local level.

John Abbott has showed me many different educational directions that this one program has to offer. But like any program in college their well be the classes that you despise and make you regret taking and of course the ones that catch your interest and cause you to want to learn more. Each and every class that I have taken, even though might be very different, are important for me to find out what I am truly interested in by means of the trial and error process of class selections. I am currently in my last semester in the Social Science general profile program. I am planning on furthering my education by attending Concordia University in the fall.

It will entail incidents in my life in which I was the victim and the perpetrator of discrimination or prejudice. I will also discuss institutional discrimination as it relates to an area of social work practice. My personal experience with discrimination was when I was an employee at MetLife Insurance Company. Throughout my years of employment with MetLife, I thought it was the best place to work until I had to report directly to Jon.
The No Child Left Behind Act is a policy that affects a lot of the clients in the social work field. This policy has an impact with the work that I do with my clients at work. The No Child Left Behind Act is an act that is federally funded, which allows schools to make sure that students are not falling behind and are ready to advance to the next level with the curriculum of reading and math. The No Child Left Behind Act affects my clients who are mainly of the African American race in several ways both positive and negative. The Act was proposed in 2001 by President Bush and he signed it into law in 2002 (CITE).
