Maybe during Holocaust most people had lost their beliefs on god and started blaming him, so god might have stopped his wish of saving them since they had no faith him. In my opinion I disagree with the statement because Hitler was the one who started the Holocaust. He started the Holocaust because he hated the Jews for everything; he disliked their politics, art and social life. So he blamed Jews for the lost of World War one.
Many, including Proctor do not support Parris in his leadership, “we vote by name in this society, not by acerage. This limits the people of Salem’s freedom, creating tension, and decreasing the willingness of the people to conform. Parris, being a minister relishes in the power given to him in this theocracy. Due to his high status as a minister in a strict Puritanical society, he holds a lot of power. He frequently emphasises the importance of conforming “There is either obedience or the church will burn like hell is burning!” This line shows how Parris believes himself to be conforming to God’s rules by constantly reiterating the harsh consequence of hell if they do not obey.
King Creon and George Bush Are They So Different? King Creon defying the will of his people by sentencing Antigone to be death because of her acts of civil disobedience. He is like many of the leaders in the world right now. He does not listen to the will of the people, and does what he thinks is right. Most poor leaders are surrounded by poor advisers and yes-men.
I am Innocent For the past couple of months you have accused me to witchcraft and think I’m the cause of all this strange behavior in Salem. I have no answers to why this is happening to these girls, but I do know I’m not apart of any witchcraft. I have been wrongfully accused. I can see were I can be a easy target to all of you because I don’t go to church. I have my reasons, but that does not mean I’m not a man of God.
The two people who stand out during this time period are Martin Luther and John Calvin. They both took a stand against what they believed was wrong. Luther did not agree with the idea of indulgences, or the paid remission of temporal punishment, and Calvin wanted to be independent of the Church. The Church was not pleased with these outcries, and persecuted these men as heretics. The Church was criticized for a large number of things by the Protestants.
Movies and TV shows have been portraying Christians as judgmental, mindless, know-it-alls for years. Cartoons like Family Guy, The Simpsons, and South Park, have depicted Christians as ignorant and condemning. Our culture recognizes wisdom and love as virtuous, but in view of the media’s portrayal of Christians, it is safe to assume that believers are not up to par on either of these things. Believers need to reexamine what it means to love God with all their mind and in doing so love others. Believers practicing loving God with all their mind would be a witness to this world and even a way of reaching out in compassion and gentleness we have left behind by burying our arguments in our Bibles and not engaging the questions raised by the lost.
I think that the idea that he does not deserve his reputation is solely for argument, because some people love the feeling of making other people angry. So Alexander made some mistakes and maybe he killed people, just because he had the authority, but no one is perfect and you can’t argue that he does not deserve this title because he made these mistakes. Every human person has made mistakes because no one human has any faults in their history. If you look at other great leaders, they all had a weakness and eventually led to their downfall, but just because they had weaknesses does not mean that they should not be honored for their accomplishments. I think that ‘defaming’ Alexander the Great does not prove the ‘no’ side in any way, because he did many things to help his empire and even though he was the cause of many deaths to the native people of their homelands, he did what he thought was best for his people.
Everyone has their own reasons, mine was because of the hatred I had for myself, I didn’t like one part of my body, and I thought I was stupid. I thought I was worthless, less than nothing, I didn’t think I deserved to live but I didn’t think I deserved to die either. I thought that I deserved to be stuck living my life, everyday dealing with the pressure to be perfect, and the pressure to be the best. I grew up with the impression that I had to be perfect to bring honor to my family. If I wasn’t perfect, I was a failure and a disgrace to my family.
3. “This did not mean that I loved black people; on the contrary, I despised them, possible because they failed to produce Rembrandt. I hated and feared the world. And this meant, not only that I thus gave the world an altogether murderous power over me, but also that in such a self-destroying limbo I could never hope to write” (448) James Baldwin had a more elegant taste for things, he wished that his fellow African Americans had created beautiful masterpieces like Rembrandt; He was dissatisfied with the world and the writings that were out there anxious and intimidated he felt he could never put his writing out there.
Al Gore’s effort to save the climate was a failure, yet his pride refused to give in. Al Gore disrespected many other political figures and caused disgust throughout America. Many people expressed their disgust towards Gore throughout media. Al Gore’s loss in the presidential election resulted directly from his arrogance and refusal to admit failure. The feeling of superiority in an overbearing manner infected many famous figures throughout history.
