Critique: I Phone User GuidePaul FabingENG/211May 11, 2013 Susan Boyle Critique: I Phone User ManualIntroduction For this assignment I have chosen to critique the current I phone user manual. It is my opinion that apple products, while designed to be user friendly for the average user, are difficult to utilize for more advanced operations. The reason I have selected documentation from Apple is to see what conventions they have used in explaining their product. The Apple I Phone User Manual is a professionally developed, free-to-use document; available for download at the following hyperlink: iphone user manual[.pdf] Criteria for Evaluation For this critique, I will utilize five points of evaluation: appearance, design, language, usability, and flow. For this exercise, I will be using Okular and Adobe reader to view this .pdf file, to measure how the .pdf file appears in different environments. This manual was written specifically for the I phone, in use with iOS 6.1. This manual was written and is maintained by Apple; however, does not contain any specific copyright information. While this is unusual, any quotes from the document shall be quoted as if copyright information exists. User Manual Appearance The I Phone user manual uses a plain white background with high contrast images. The title page is functional, neat, and plain, utilizing a great deal of white space. This design gives the user a sense of simplicity, in the overall appearance of the manual. While there has been an attempt to minimize clutter, the title page is missing information, such as, author and image acknowledgments, publishing, and copyright information. User Manual Design Following the title page is the table of contents. Each chapter is presented in large font and an appealing post-futuristic lightening blue, in order to contrast against the chapter contents.
