Furthermore, the discretion of police can play a large role in the investigation of criminal offences; however, it can lead to certain individuals in society being targeted. The amount of power that police currently have is enough to successfully achieve justice and to sufficiently protect the community. It is imperative to the safety of society that police have a large degree of power in criminal investigations. The New South Wales police force under the Law Enforcement (Power and Responsibilities) Act 2002 is given special legal powers to enable them to effectively carry out their duties. The ‘7:30 report – Sydney shootings spark call for expanded police powers’ supports the importance of police having a high degree of authority in criminal matters.
Criminal justice administrators make important decisions daily, which can have profound effects on our lives (Gleason, 2006). Within the criminal justice administration critical thinking also play an important role along side with ethical and professional behavior. Within criminal justice law enforcement, corrections, and courts all use critical thinking to make ethical and professional decisions. Police officers must use critical thinking to conclude how the law was broken, how to respond, and if to arrest a person or not. When a police officer does not use critical thinking that is where problems can arise.
Criminal Justice Trends Evaluation Brandon Vines CJA/394 Deborah Blanch November 26, 2013 Abstract This paper will evaluate the past, future, and present trends in the interface between components of the criminal justice system and criminal justice connections with surrounding society. In this paper I will also evaluate, identify, and access the following in my paper: Recent and future trends and contemporary issues affecting the criminal justice system, as well as the value of the criminal justice system in a changing society. Past Trends As we all know, we all rely on the criminal justice system to protect us as a community, and to also enlighten us about what is going on within our communities. Lets face it, every citizen wants to be safe in knowing that he or she can safely walk the streets without facing some type of threat to his or her life. To begin with, the criminal justice system is a field that will forever evolve.
Although he feels that this way of looking at crime is not fair to the victim or the justice system, but that the media over the years has influenced this way of thinking, giving the conception that certain conditions surrounding when, where, or how the crime took place may be the factor in why it happened in the first place. He terms the issue as a “feedback loop” meaning that as a society we are aware

Changes are still being made today to improve the methods and to please the public’s opinion. It is clear that there are both pros and cons of the death penalty but it unclear which side has more evidence to influence the final decision. The main focal points of the death penalty can be found in the categories of cost, public safety, and ethics. With these categories, the government hopes to develop ideas for the future of capital
(Schmalleger, F., Hall, D.E. & Dolatowski, J.J., 2010). These ancient laws continually evolved, ever-changing with society’s needs and desires, ultimately developing into our current criminal law. Criminal law is a vital element to our society. This essay will discuss the sources and purposes of criminal law, as well as identify and explain jurisdiction to create and enforce criminal law, discuss the adversarial system and standards of proof in criminal cases, discuss and differentiate the concepts of criminal liability and accomplice liability, and finally, define inchoate offenses and compare them to elements of additional criminal offenses.
Herbert Packer mentioned two values inherent in the Criminal Justice System; The crime control model and the due process model. Which model do you prefer, and why? The Crime Control Model and the Due Process Model both intend to serve a similar purpose: To reduce crime and protect the public. The crime control model places emphasis on reducing the crime in society through increased police and prosecutional powers. The criminal process exists to investigate crimes, screen suspects, detain dangerous defendants, and secure convictions of guilty parties.
Criminal Justice Strategies Individual-rights advocate versus public-order play an important role in our criminal justice system today. I think that public order would have a more profound reflection on the criminal justice system as we speak. Public order brings to life advocacy for crime being controlled. I think it was best put in to focus as, “at what point does the cost to civil liberties from legislation designed to prevent terrorism (and crime) outweigh the added security that legislation provides (O’Connor, 2007, p.11).” I personally support these types of strategies knowing that the U.S. government has earned the right to allow physical force above us who cannot obey the laws. Therefore, the rights that we are accessible to allow
Criminal Justice System Paper Sarah Murphy CJA/204 Monday, August 29, 2011 Professor Danny Williams Criminal Justice System Paper In the world today, with consideration, the criminal justice system includes a group of agencies, government workers, and processes established by our government to control crime rates and inflict penalties to those who disobey the law. In using certain components, our government is better able to administrate criminal justice processes successfully to the innocent and to the guilty. The Criminal Justice System The criminal justice system is here to assist in controlling crime and imposing punishment to those who disobey the law. Crime is defined as an “act or the commission of an act that is forbidden or the omission of a duty that is commanded by a public law and that makes the offender liable to punishment by that law; especially: a gross violation of the law” (Schmallager, 2009).
