Abstract Over the past fifteen years leaders continue to explore the policy process and decision-making issues in criminal justice. A policy is the result of various decisions. The purpose of criminal justice policies is to provide society protection from unlawful acts and decrease criminal act. These decisions are made by key participants that influence congressional mandates. One of the most important policy shifts over the past eight years is the dramatic increase in the policies that address crime and criminal justice. According to Marion & Oliver, the key participants in the criminal justice policy process are the executive branch, legislative branch, judicial branch, bureaucracies, media, interest groups, and the voters. The key actors in the criminal justice policy process are an important part of the process and instrumental in establishing, enforcing, and shaping the future of the policy process. The criminal justice policy process replicates the best solutions for crime control. The crime control and criminal justice issues are an expansion of policy making. As a result of policy implementation decisions and made that establish the government’s procedure for addressing criminal justice issues. Elected officials often use a democratic system to influence others and gain support for policies in an attempt to influence the public policy process and win voter approval. Political affairs and criminal justice policy endure public opinion and society pressures. Criminal justice policies focus on problems that involve each participant in the criminal justice system. This stage of the public policy process consists of dialogue and deliberation between the executive branch, legislative branch, and judicial branch. This stage of the public policy process also allows the public to identify possible problems, recommend optional answers, establish objectives, and document the steps that will achieve the goals (Marion & Oliver, 2012). The third phase of the public policy process can be intricate and often require compromises among the participants. After the creation of policy, the appropriate powers that be must approve the policy. A weak policy may be more apt to receive approval than a policy that embarks upon issues more straightforwardly.
