Personal Statement 1st Draft I am a sixth year pupil currently studying at Ross High, hoping to study Sociology, Criminology and Social Policy at University. For many years I have had an interest in society's influence over our actions, as well as an interest in the criminal mind and the factors that may be involved in determining criminality. Politics has also been one of my areas of interest, however I am hoping to study social policy rather than politics as I am more interested in the practical side to politics and how the creating of certain policies could change and better people's lives. I believe that an understanding of society and the individuals within it is key in being able to create successful and meaningful social policies.…show more content…
During this I had to deal with a 'difficult' pupil and read with them for 60 minutes a week. Not only did this boost the pupil's confidence and reading skills – which was extremely fulfilling – it also allowed my confidence to grow to. I also took part in Young Enterprise in which I was in charge of many projects, showing my level of maturity and responsibility. I was also a part of the Yearbook and Leavers Committee. Taking part in these also improved my time management skills as all meetings had to be attended on time and I also had to work to deadlines. I have a part time job in a shop, New Look, in which I have to deal with members of the public on a daily basis. This has improved my confidence greatly. I also have to work as part of a team in New Look, showing that I am a good listener and co-operative – which would be key in doing well in university. I would employ all these skills throughout university life in order to help me succeed and do well. I spend the majority of my spare time socializing – perhaps a little more than I should – however I do believe I have a good balance of school work and free time. I love listening to music, reading magazines and going shopping, as does any teenager! Due to my bubbly and good natured personality I believe I would thoroughly enjoy the social aspects of university life. It would be a great opportunity to meet new people from very different backgrounds. I prefer to present my ideas on paper rather than to a group of people, however I would hope that attending university would boost my confidence
