Crime and Punishment or a Prison as a Present Nowadays, in the age of high technology and considerable opportunities to get education, find a job and get settled in life, crime is not a rarity. Thief, hooligan, murderer are criminals. But why do people commit crimes? Who and what makes them do the illegal actions? Several causes can be pointed out. First of all, this is money and the desire to get rich. Perhaps, the main cause of crime nowadays is the increasing precipice between the rich and the poor. If the rich have everything: houses, cars, meal, in short - everything without exception, the poor have nothing, that’s why they make robberies with violence, burglary and drug peddling. But then why do the rich commit the crimes? Why do they do that? Because of easy money, desire to receive adrenaline or because of boredom? I agree when psychologists say that the original cause of the crime is breakdown of family life. A lot of young offenders are the result of unhappy families. An incomplete family, a loss of respect in family instigates people to commit crime. Another frequent reason is drugs or alcohol. In this case people commit crimes submitting only to their instincts without being conscious in their actions. Moreover, when it comes to drugs, keeping and spreading of it as well as drug trafficking is itself a crime. Besides don’t forget about the influence of TV and the Internet. Television violence also provokes crimes. People who see horror films, thrillers or criminal news every day most likely commit crimes. Very often people commit crimes as a result of long playing violent computer games. And what shall people do with these offenders? There are several kinds of punishment. The first and the greatest punishment of the sinner is the conscience of sin, said Lucius Annaeus Seneca, but a lot of criminals don’t even understand that their actions
