Underdogs can only be created if there is a sense of competition. In films the underdog is often portrayed as a “loser” or weak, usually the people that can’t handle this criticism, quit. But the underdog overcomes despite not fitting in or being the best competitor. This in fact makes them very strong. In the movie Rudy, Rudy wants nothing more then a chance to be in the football game to make his parents proud.
Having a teammate to run alongside a runner reminds the runner of the team that is relying on him to do his best. For example, if one team member begins to step up the pace and runs well, other teammates will follow the lead. Running with a team rather than running individually makes racing more rewarding. Proof that mental strength comes from teamwork can be found within the Wando cross country team of which I am a member. This year we were the state champions.
Biff didn't have the same drive that Cory had but he still loved the game, it was a lot easier for him to be more interested in football when he had the support from his father. Cory and Biff both wanted to make something of themselves through football. This never happened for either of the boys because Cory's father wouldn't sign papers for a recruiter that came all the way from North Carolina just to see Cory, as for Biff he never passed his math class which kept him from graduating. Even though the boys didn't make a career for themselves out of football they both still treasured the sport, maybe even more than their own father. Cory and Biff both had unusual fathers.
Being able to play sports is also a privilege. Many athletes know that their classroom performance is very important. Making good grades provides a better student first and then a great athlete. In many communities and high school, if you don't make the grades you don't play, or in some cases even make the team. The importance of grades is also must for students who are pursuing an athletic scholarship.
This made it increasingly difficult as the harvest would suffer which would then cause a serious lack of food within the Kingdom itself, which in turn meant that the Fyrd would have very little supplies when called out and also affected all aspects of trade, and finances within the Kingdom. The Vikings could also simply retreat once the Fyrd had been called out. This had a devastating effect on the Saxon economy and harvest, as able bodied men were taken away from their jobs, while the Vikings had a constant supply of men and food from abroad. In comparison the Viking army were very well equipped and mobile. By the
Gretzky commonly said, “You’re guaranteed to miss one hundred percent of the shots you don't take” ("Wayne Gretzky Foundation"). This shows Gretzky’s positive outlook on life because it means that you can’t be afraid to reach your goals, because you will never achieve them unless you try. Although Wayne Gretzky was a great player on the ice, his actions of kindness and humbleness are what he is most remembered and honored by. Wayne Gretzky’s contributions are shaped by his father’s motivating attitude, his family, friends, and even the media. Therefore, Gretzky was able to have an outstanding hockey career and be a role model off the ice, leading to the creation of the Wayne Gretzky Foundation and the active role he plays in charity.
Christopher sees and experiences things much differently that other people. He has a very hard time with distinguishing facial expressions, sarcasm, and he has a very difficult time understanding other people's logic. He also fantasizes about being the only person left on the earth and he avoids people at most costs. I absolutely think that Christopher has a disability because none of the things listed above would be considered “normal” behavior. Most people would go
This would be very impossible because no one would no longer want to challenge the Sheriff. The growing number of the Merrymen has cause many problems for the group. The more people there are in a group the more resources they are using. This has caused a large decrease in the resources they need to survive. Even with bartering and stealing the resources are low and they are costing them more than they can bring in in revenue.
Being in sports give me the courage and strength to do well in my classes, because if I don’t I will not be able to be basically anything possible to keep running. I always tell myself that without a good education I will never get any were, that’s why school comes in first before anything else. I have face extremely hard obstacles in the track and cross country starting with hitting the times asked by my coaches. When I am asked to hit a certain time it is usually for an important reason not just for me but for the team as well. I always challenge myself to go faster than what I’m asked for.
I agree with Elder some, but also disagree with him a little as well. He states that, “the type of person it takes to succeed in sports, especially violent sports like football, makes athletes a tough sell as a role model.” What makes football players successful is the fact that some of them are a little crazy. Most football players have field anger, the want to take risks, and limited impulse control, not exactly someone you want living next door. I don’t agree with one of the statements that Andrew Miracle, an anthropologist from TCU, said. “Generally involvement in any extracurricular activity is a good thing, but sports are no better than band or chorus.
