Carl Rogers, The author of the essay “Communication: Its Blocking and its Facilitation”, presents the idea that communication between people today is struggling. Rogers states that the “major factors in blocking or impending communication” is due to “our very natural tendency to judge” other people’s thoughts, ideas, and opinions without ever being in their shoes (419). Rogers goes in depth on the overlaying problems of communication these days but also gives us various ways to help us communicate on a new level of understanding. When communicating with individuals, we must listen and not immediately judge the person. Rogers puts blame on this as one of the biggest reasons for communication breakdown.
We will compare and contrast the different scenarios and information of all three sources to make up our own analysis of reality and knowledge. The similarities in these three scenarios are obvious. Descartes, in the Meditation on First Philosophy, 1641 and Neo, in The Matrix, started feeling skeptical about life, questioning life itself. They faced doubts about the reality of what they were seeing, skeptical of the reliability of their senses. Thinking that they were facing the possibility of a dream and not reality, they believed that they were unconsciously living manipulated by deception.
She even describes these feelings as being dizzy which they can be, what a person feels during infatuation is very confusing and overwhelming. Conflict can bring about the best and worst in people Conflict is a concept that prevades every aspect of our lives; it is inevitable and unpreventable. It has the capability to cause detrimental destruction and grief and can also result in a positive. It is how we choose to conduct ourselves in these times of conflict that define who we are and how we are viewed in society. Conflict at times can bring about the best in some individuals enabling them to display astonishing qualities and can also bring about the poorest of qualities in others. Some individuals may show no reaction towards conflict and be absolutely unmoved by it.
Stress is defined as “the process by which we perceive and respond to certain events, called stressors, that we praise as threatening or challenging” (Myers, 2012, page 275). Stress is about an individual or is personal and is affected by the choices the person makes as an individual. The stress that is bad for you deprives you the ability to experience joy, happiness, enjoy life and who you are. That is why it is very important to recognize symptoms of stress and identify ways to bring the stress under control. The good stress is the kind that will help keep you motivated to be productive and be able to achieve the goals we set for ourselves.
Continuous conflict has consistently caused detrimental effects on human society. On the one hand, the selfish desires of a nation can cause many others to suffer pain as the actions of one can inflict sadness on another. The past can change how the society view conflict as a whole and can influence long-term effects. However, others feel that human nature has forced us to act with whatever means necessary to achieve sustainability, thus conflict and its hardships are in fact inevitable. History has shown that conflict begins as a result of individuals, groups and even nation’s desires to their needs, beliefs and interests.
