Today, plastic surgery has become in high demand among males and females, teenagers in order to look their physically best. On the other hand Hassen-Biber talks about a critical illness among teenagers and adults called Bulimia Nervosa. Although the authors approach different situations among teenagers and adults in which they put their lives at risk in different ways, both authors agree that one major reason for this issue is the American media. Blum focuses on make over shows and plastic surgery. “Extreme makeover shows us people being made good-looking enough to be on television.” (pg.
The Before and After Risks Undergoing Cosmetic Surgery Cosmetic Surgery is the branch of plastic surgery that deals with normal tissue, not diseases and injured bodies. The surgery can enhance or totally change someone’s appearance (even though this isn’t reconstructive). According to American Surgeons for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, (ASAPS), there were ten million surgical and non -surgical procedures performed in the United States in 2009. This number seems to be high, between 2007 and 2008 there was more than a twelve percent decrease in the total number of cosmetic procedures according to ASAPS. People are becoming more aware of such a risky decision.
My theory also is that eventually people will start bidding on artificial organs and the richer people will have say over a family that doesn't have a lot of money. If doctors wanted to replace original organs with artificial ones, it would take a lot of perfecting and obligating a clean bill of health for the patient. Who, if anyone, should be a prime candidate for these types of artificial/synthetic replacements? Do you feel that anyone should have access to them? Even a life-long smoker or alcoholic who knowingly subjected themselves to harmful substances?
Facelifts have come a long way in the last 20 years, not only in the terms of technique, but also in the terms of accessibility to people. In the 1970’s and even in the 1980’s, the facelift was a luxury reserved for the rich and famous. A facelift was also an apparent item of conspicuous consumption, as the “tight look” of earlier skin lifts was unnatural and often accompanied by some visible scarring. Skilled surgeons; however, since the 1980’s have been employing more sophisticated techniques which avoid both stretching the skin as well as the concomitant scars. These techniques deal with the actual sagging of the underlying tissues, which occurs naturally with the ageing process.
Demographic Paper By Tina M. Borges University of Phoenix HCS/490 Health Care Consumer: Trends and Marketing October 4, 2011 Carol Sweigert “Ageing populations in developed countries are being driven by strong social and structural demographic movement leading to a significant growth in the over 65 population (de Castries, 2009 p. 24)”. The United States over the last several decades has also had an increase in the older population which has created the need for long-term health care. The demographic changes have also shifted from infectious diseases amongst the population to chronic illness due to the growth in older adults within the United States. Most of the health care expenditures in the United States come from the elderly
The Cholesterol Race PCSK9 stands for proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 9. PCSK9 inhibitors are being made to help reduce cholesterol. Scientists are very optimistic that PCSK9 inhibitor drugs can decrease cholesterol, which is one of the major health problems in the United States today. Many people are dying each year because of high cholesterol. Two companies are gaining a lot of ground on coming up with a drug to lower cholesterol without horrible side effects.
This is due to machines prolonging life, medications are stronger when administered by a nurse versus a by mouth pain pill and due to rigorous disease treatment cycles (cancer, lung disease, HIV, Hep B/C, etc) Most patients that are able to relay information in their last days, would like to die a good death. By dying a good death, it can be explained as suffering from minimal pain, having friends and family around, and a non hospital setting. “Influenced by concerns regarding the care of dying people, scientific and debates about assisted suicide and euthanasia, strategic documents privilege the pursuit of a ‘good death’ by raising the profile of dying people’s needs and preferences, prioritizing choice, inviting individuals to plan for their dying and deaths and encouraging the use of end-of-life care pathways for the imminently dying.” (WATTS, T. T. (2012) It is critical to remember that few patients are admitted into the hospital because they want to be there. “It can become stressful when one comes to know that he or she is
This increasing trend of cosmetic surgeries in America attribute to media and famous public figures who promote cosmetic surgery as corrective surgery. Teenagers believe that their appearance has to be flawless, similar with celebrities as a result about 326,000 teenagers had plastic surgery in 2004. The author suggests that it’s the parent’s responsibility to teach their children about the damages of cosmetic surgery, also parents should not support their children by paying the bills for unnecessary plastic surgery. Teenagers are not well informed about the damages of cosmetic surgeries consequently they put their lives are at high risk. Teenagers only focus on the cosmetic aspect of the procedures they desire, and forget that it is actually a surgery.

Health Care Spending page 2 As we all know health care spending is a current issue that has a huge effect on American consumer. Americans are spending billions of dollars for health care services which have claimed over a two trillion dollar share of the United States economy. Health care spending has focused on a broad range of cost-related issues, such as rising costs, present spending, and how the health care system can function more efficient.
