People are also expecting more from marriage, and women especially are choosing to live alone due to feminist views. One reason for the growth in single hood could be the change in the law for divorce. In 1969 the Divorce Reform Act allowed people to divorce easier, as it meant they could put in place a no fault act. This meant that people didn't feel forced to stay in a marriage that made them unhappy. Furthermore, this would lead to a lot of people expecting more from relationships after getting divorced, as they wouldn't want to fall victim to what cause their last marriage to end again.
You could easily say that after WWI, many Americans would characterize our country’s state of fear of being undermined. Americans were definitely traditionalists after WWI , who only wanted policies of conformity and intolerance. This led to very conservative policies by our government which would conflict with fresh progressive ides coming off the progressive era. The Scopes trial of 1925 proved intolerance between traditionalists and modernists. Traditionalists obviously wanted things to stay the same and still go with the bible instead of teaching evolution.
The Bill was created to prevent a repeat of the Bonus March of 1932 and a relapse into the Great Depression after World War II ended. The American Legion (a veterans group) was essentially responsible for many of the Bill’s provisions. The Legion managed to have the bill apply to all who served in the armed services, including African Americans and women. The fact that the Bill paid for a G. I.’s entire education encouraged many universities across the country to expand enrollment. For example, the University of Michigan had fewer than 10,000 students prior to the war, but in 1948 its enrollment was well over 30,000.
Luther’s arguments referred to a direct relationship with God and using the local vernacular to speak to the people. Luther’s arguments removed the absolute power from the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church in general. The revenue from the taxes paid to the Church would be reduced with Luther’s ideas, in part because of the removal of buying souls out of purgatory. And thanks to the printing press, Luther’s 95 Theses was reprinted throughout Germany, which soon attracted many followers, as well as many enemies. In 1520, the Pope excommunicated with Martin Luther.
They are also not having babies or having them later so that they can pursue single lifestyle which means that by the time they have done this they have less time to have babies which means if they do decide to have children they will have less due to the time they have spent being single. A lot of women now have become a lot more independent and are concentrating on their career. Contraception has also improved a lot since the 1900’s this now means that women can choose whether they want to have children or not and still have a sexual relationship whereas before if you wanted to have sex you would most probably become pregnant. In the 1900’s children were less likely to survive due to the health conditions and lack of health care, now there is the NHS free health care for people so babies have a lot more chance of surviving so mothers don’t need to have as many children because the chance of them surviving is a lot higher than it used to be. Women are choosing to have babies later which is also causing the birth rate to drop this is because there is less stigma on having babies t an older age so women are waiting and not worrying what people might think.
America was taking part of what was called the “Red Scare” resulting from the Palmer Raids in 1919 in which 6000 communists were wound up in America. This sense of anti-foreignism was mainly for the fact that communists were nothing but different and Americans were tired of dealing with different nations and at this time Americanism was trying to be found in everyone. One of the ways that this anti-foreignism was manifested was the radical arise of the 1920’s Klu Klux Klan. Unlike the KKK of the 19th century, this Klan wasn’t only anti-African American, but it was anti immigrants, anti-Catholic, and anti-communist and basically anti anything that wasn’t American. Hiram Wesly Evans describes in Document D that the Klan speaks for the
Reasons for the economic boom in the 1920s America experienced an economic boom after World War 1 ended because of many different factors. There was a rapid increase in industry and this caused many more people, including women to become employed and to earn their own money. Many new industries were created in the 1920s; one of the rapidly increasing industries was the car industry. Henry Ford revolutionised the production of cars by creating mass production. This meant that people had one specific job on the production line that they repeated over and over so they became very good at this one job, this meant that the T-ford model could be produced every 10 seconds.
business, especially on the international level, industrialization had a very big impact, as shown in Document 5. On the graph, it showed how from 1870 to 1920, there was a very noticeable increase in the amount of money the United States gained because of their business in international markets. This could have been caused also by the rise of big businesses and new policies that were being made, as well as because of the invention and manufacturing of many new things. It is clear that the value of their exports increased dramatically, allowing U.S. business to rise. In conclusion, there were many social, economic, and political reactions cause by industrialization and urbanization between 1890 and 1920.
At this time people wanted to spend their money instead of save it for hard times. Society’s hourly pay rate nearly double and tripled during this era. War factories transitioned from making war materials to making civilian supplies, which lead to the boost in our economy at the time. Today, effects of the Baby Boom have many factors that come into play that affect our economy. According to National Academy of Social Insurance “social security faces a financial challenge from the impending retirement of the largest generation in American history, the 76 million persons born in the “baby boom” years, from 1946 through 1964.
For example, because troops were returning home from WWI, there was a lot of job competition between new workers and old workers. To resolve this issue, the government made a quota, which was a limitation on the number of immigrants allowed into the U.S. This led to racism against various racial and religious groups, such as African Americans. For example, the Ku Klux Klan was an organization in the U.S. that advocated reactionary currents, such as white supremacy. In other words, the KKK was against immigration and they increased violence in the 1920’s.
