When characterizing it, one normally thinks of Hitler’s domination and the Nazis. Although, that was a major part of the war, the war on the Pacific was as significant, yet unrecognized to the public today. The Great Depression was in full effect in the US when World War II began, giving many unemployed men a job in the army. This resulted in a surge of patriotism and national pride.

But despite all the riches it came at a great cost and destruction to the American Indians. The warfare between the US and the Indians began as early as 1809 and lasted until 1890, to which the Indians losing and being forced to live on reservations. Despite military involvement in early wars with the Indians, the final conquest was the white settlers wrestling land from them. To go along with the 4,400 Americans that wont be coming home to their families, there were over 32,000 Americans wounded in this war. So was this $4 trillion dollar war really wort our time and the lives it cost us? I say no, I feel we spent far too long helping a country that wanted nothing but for us to leave their country for years. We have cost too many lives, and have changed too many lives with injuries to justify a war where we simply just pull out.
