The death penalty is a good punishment The death penalty, also called capital punishment is the execution of criminals who have committed a major crime. The death penalty doesn’t just punish someone for killing someone but for murder. There is a difference between the two. Murder is defined as “the unlawful and malicious or premeditated killing of one human being by another (Carmical).” the death penalty doesn’t punish someone for killing that is done my self defense. The death penalty is a lawful killing of a criminal and is not done by an individual but by the government. Before any person in the United States is executed, twelve members of a carefully selected jury have to decide-beyond a reasonable doubt that a defendant is guilty(Carmical). There is no real proof that the death penalty isn’t fair. The possibility of an innocent person being executed is very small. There has to be a sufficient amount of evidence to proof someone guilty and have them sentenced to death. The purpose of the death penalty is to bring an individual to justice. There are five different ways that a person can be executed in the United Sates. Which are: lethal injection, electrocution, lethal gas, hanging, and firing squad (Carmical). The punishment has to fit the crime. Sentencing a murderer to jail is not an adequate punishment. The punishment for murder needs to be more server than just going to jail. Being sentenced in a air-conditioned, cable equipped prison where they get 3 free meals a day, personal recreation time, and regular visits with friends and family is not a fair punishment for murderers(Carmical). Other people’s tax money would be going into paying for all of those expenses. However if they are executed, there wouldn’t be a need to pay for all of those
