English essay by Rico Pimentel Concept of change Change is a process of transformation in a natural being. This process can influence the physical, emotional and different perspectives of a being. Change can both be positive and negative depending on the circumstances towards change. A person can experience change through many different circumstances, some of these include his/her personal choices, puberty, society and emotions. Change can also be both certain and influential. Personal choices and emotions are some examples that occur in influential change while puberty is a certain change that everyone has to go through. Using Shakespeare’s soliloquies and supported with a related text. This essay explores the concept towards change and how it affects the characters. Macbeth, written by Shakespeare, is a play that underlines the story of a great warrior whose thoughts were corrupted by three witches and a manipulating wife. Macbeth was a man full of greatness and was praised even by the king. However, a situation occurred, initiating a change in Macbeth’s perspective toward the king. His mind was corrupted by the three witches, stating that Macbeth shall become the new king of Scotland. This statement, supported with ambitious desires and a thirst for power, the Scottish thane planned to kill the king to become one. Shakespeare uses a variety of soliloquies to show the changing thoughts of Macbeth. The “dagger” soliloquy centralises the change in his rational thinking and changes his perspective towards the king. Macbeth is a man who logically thinks of everything that he does. In this speech however, we see an insight in Macbeth’s mind which is confused and distorted as he gathers his thoughts on whether to kill the king. As Macbeth processes his thoughts in this soliloquy, we can clearly see that negative chance will occur through his personal choices. He
