The King of Mazy May The “King of Mazy May” was written by Jack London. The story centers on the adventures of Walt Masters on the Mazy May, party of the Yukon. Throughout the story Walt encounters many difficulties that he must overcome to reach his main goal. The “King of Mazy May” is an interesting story that teaches readers about the Yukon while entertaining students with the adventures of Jack London. The main character is Walt Masters, a fourteen-year old boy who is much more mature than other boys his age.
He even writes books! One of the most recent books he wrote entitled “Me to We” focuses on explaining their philosophy of volunteerism service to others and social involvement. These examples of his brilliance make him an astonishing Canadian activist. Caring was another obvious quality that Kielburger. At the age of twelve years old, he saw a headline about a young boy is Pakistan, who was forced into bonded labor at the age of four.
In the book hatchet written by Gary Paulson an important character is Brian Robeson. Brian is a 14 year old boy who is lonely, depressed and angry because his parents are divorced. He is a city boy used to being looked after and pampered in everything he does. He cannot cope in the wild but learns to survive. When Brian crash lands in the canadian rain forest he is unable to cope and he feels resentful and scared.
He felt let down in his father, as he didn't arrest anyone or carry a gun, "And that disappointed me at times". David saw Wes as a great role model later when he realized what a challenge it was choosing between being a brother, sheriff and an employer to Marie. David starts to see his father in a different way because of the difficult situation he was in, evidence of this is shown when he "could appreciate the situation his father was in" therefore gaining respect for him. Unlike Wes, Frank was a negative role model to David. In Montana shows that David believed that Frank was the perfect "manly" role model until his true colours showed.
Yasamin Roozbeh English 081 May 21, 2012 Wesley Hayden In the novel Montana 1948, Larry Watson tells the story of the struggles of a family torn between loyalty and justice. The identity of Wesley Hayden is explored and the different points of views of his brother, Frank’s sexual assault case add a new perception to the story. Wesley grows as a person because of the circumstances and misfortune he undergoes throughout the novel. Watson portrays Wesley to be a weak and brittle man, making him seem as though he cannot defeat anyone or anything that comes his way. Wesley lives under the shadow of his brother Frank and as the story progresses he is slowly escaping it.
Because of this, Canadians respected him a lot which also supported him to do more contributions for this country. In addition, Laurier served the country for 15 years as the Prime Minister of Canada. He was also the leader of the Canadian Liberal Party which was established by him. Sir Wilfrid Laurier attracted my attention a lot because he was a gritty person when he was only a teenager, he was also a modest politician and he did many contributions for education. Laurier was born to a poor family but he always worked hard and he was a really gritty child
Canada More Than A Country, A Family While many young men were losing their lives in the brutal bloodbath of world war , The Canadian home front geared up to support the war effort by supplying food, weapons and any other equipment resulting in the ultimate victory in 1945. During world war two, life back at home was very difficult and much different from what it was like before the war. Women were taking on the roles of men in local factories and any other work places. Propaganda was used everywhere trying to persuade men to join the war. Canadians were working together to provide sustainable food for the soldiers.
But whereas the physically defective Bernard had suffered all his life from the consciousness of being separate, it was only quite recently that, grown aware of his mental excess, Helmholtz Watson had also become aware of his difference from the people who surrounded him." (Huxley 61) Helmholtz tries to comfort Bernard by telling Bernard that he is not alone while also encourages him to strive continually for success. Toronto at Dreamer's Rock: Michael encourages Rusty to persist with his life: "'This information will affect your life, maybe negatively at this crucial and formative stage. I don't think it's advisable at the moment'" (Taylor 57). Michael is providing some facts from the future which allows Rusty to believe that life is more worthwhile, since many troubles bother him at this point.
Coraline The book Coraline is a very surreal book written by Neil Gaiman. The story is about a young girl called Coraline, who discovers a strange world on the other side on a fascinating door. Neil Gaiman has written a lot of other books, for young readers, such as: ‘Mr Punch’ and his best book ever written, ‘The Graveyard’. In this very spooky, fascinating story, Coraline and her parents move into a new house. After arriving at the new house, Coraline wants to explore the grounds, until some bad weather arrives and Coraline gets bored.
This is evident in the journey of a father and son, struggling for food, warmth and basic necessities that one needs to live. This situation puts them in a difficult decision making process forcing them to question to what extreme will they go to survive. It is evident that many other characters in the novel other than the father and son have had an extremely difficulty staying surviving in a civilized way. Some characters in the novel have gone to extreme measures to survive, some of which include eating their own prey. The father does not know exactly how to handle these types of problems, due to the face his main goal is to keep both of them alive.
