Teenagers in the 1950’s vs. 2013, Then and Now So if you were a typical teenager in the 1950’s there are a few things that would make you different just in the way you dress. The popular dress for guys were jeans and white T-shirts, leather jackets, greased back hair or flat tops and some version of a converse shoe. Girls mostly wore dresses and had longer hair styled many different ways including a beehive style. Today guys and girls are wearing things that push the limit in clothes and hairstyles. Clothes are more important now in expressing who you are as a person and the types of clothes you wear tell a lot about you. The traditional way of dressing is not the same. For instance people use to get dressed up for church yet now you see many people going to church in shorts and flip flops or sandals. The shows were very basic with just everyday life situations and all the characters were polite and nothing was ever shown on television that could be deemed offensive. Fast-forward to today and the reality television shows that deal with larger than life issues are on not only color television but, high definition flat screens and Dolby surround sound. If you have the right cable connection you can literally have hundreds of television shows or thousands of movies right at your fingertips. Things have changed so much from the 1950’s for teenagers. In many cases the changes have made life better and provided teenagers with many good benefits but in many ways the changes have had negative effects.
