The most important fact about Hal is that he is not a genius. In fact, he shows this a little when he claims that if he had one tenth of the accomplishments Robert had, he could work in any math department in the country. He may enjoy less than a tenth of Robert’s ability, but he suffers nothing of his curse. He shows us this while he is with his rock band in the after-hours of the night. Hal and his friends go out for drinks and get laid, showing basic forms of sanity among most people.
“No argument can be effective unless it speaks well to others,”(Lunsford 27). Jacob is a Student at Goshen College and he spoke well in his speech. He gave concrete examples, personal testimony, social and biblical references. I believe this speech was definitely effective according to our book. I can’t speak for anyone in the audience but I can say that the speech had effects on my views because in all reality if two gay people do get married it doesn’t change a thing for most people.
Not everyone wants that much help! Teachers, quit making me take notes all the time! There are certain teachers that will grade you on your notes, calling it a participation grade. That has got to be the biggest load of crap I've ever heard! Many kids like myself are blessed with the capability to understand and remember things just by actively participating in the class discussion and listening to their teachers.
In this case the power of the court made a verdict with 5 to 4 vote. The court makes it easy to avoid very difficult questions. The search with the GPS tracker without doubt crossed over 3 weeks, but with the new technology has brought up a lot of question that the court somehow can just ignore. Justice Alito said, “It may be that achieving the same result through electronic means, without an accompanying trespass, is an unconstitutional invasion of privacy, but the present case does not require us to answer that question.” They avoided the question if people will be acceptable to be recorded ever minute. New technologies allow officers or investigators to track us down and show we don’t have any privacy.
Back in the days, they did not have as much as we do today. But when a new invention came out to the streets of America, it was unreal and shocking for people. In the 50’s they did not have much of anything. IPods were not even thought of and laptops were way out of the question. But the new thing for them was a television set.
The shared opinion by the men on the ranch is that they think ‘Curley’s married… a tart’ and that she is ‘giving men the eye’. Steinbeck uses this technique to create a biased opinion and set up the thoughts that men had of women in those days, calling her a ‘tart’ makes the reader think that she is unfaithful or prone to be, causing a disliking towards her. However given the fact that this is coming from gossip the reader realises it may be slightly exaggerated. Curley’s ‘glove fulla Vaseline’ make us pity Curley’s wife as it objectifies her as nothing but a sexual property to someone, which links in with her only ever being referred to as ‘Curley’s wife’ showing us that she is nothing but Curley’s property as she remains nameless throughout the whole novel. Even though we see a sense of power with Curley, we are then brought to the idea that she is ‘giving men the eye’ which makes us dislike her for we assume then that she is being unfaithful and portraying her as a floozy.
He does not know what he should do or say. Jealous of the former relationship between his wife and Robert, he is suspicious. He knows that his wife has told Robert about him and has probably complained about his faults. This makes him feel guilty and insecure. He later says how "I was not enthusiastic about his visit.... A blind man in my house was not something I looked forward to” (100).
The dynamic verb of “watch” shows to the reader that Manon feels a little bit of pain towards the slaves and that she feels that they are only being used for torture. This tells us that Manon hates the sight of violence and torture, making us believe that she is a woman of peace. However, because of her restricted viewpoint this may make us to believe that she is exaggerating at bit because it is only from her point of view but also because she will want to make her husband look and sound bad, possibly because
One woman who is looked to as a figure of affection is Jordan. The narrator of the story, Nick Carraway, is attracted to Jordan for the way she is as a person. Although Nick does not like some things about Jordan, he oversees those traits and lets his attraction toward her dominate his feelings. Their relationship, though, soon fades away and falls due to the event of the death of a woman named Myrtle, to which Jordan starts shows indifference and shallowness. This is the reason as to Nick and Jordan’s relationship falling apart.
I feel negative toward her, so pretty much whatever she does, even if it is nice, I will find a way to view it as negative. Also, applying the Halo Effect Theory, the wife doesn’t like her husband and whatever he does, like getting the tickets to this nice dinner event, she saw as negative because she does not like him. According to the theory, no matter how he had presented the tickets, even if someone gave the tickets to him and there was not money spent, his wife would find some reason to dislike the event because her husband is the one who gave her the
