Because his parents have died in a car accident, Ponyboy lives with his brothers Darry and Sodapop. Darry repeatedly accuses Ponyboy of lacking common sense, but Ponyboy is a reliable youth. Throughout the novel, Ponyboy struggles with class division, violence, innocence, and familial love. He matures over the course of the novel, eventually realising the importance of friendship and the feeling of respect. Though he is only fourteen years old, he understands the way his social group functions and the role each group member plays.
Pony is a very smart kid, he is an honer roll student. He gets straight A's. Out the three brothers Pony is the smartest, he skipped a grade ahead. He is very intelligent. " What's a nice kid, SMART kid like you running around with trash like that for" , quote found on page 22.
Itachi spent much of his time researching the history of the village from the writings their ancestors left behind. Because no other child his age cared about the ancestors of the village, Itachi grew up isolated from his peers to the point he didn't even care about being liked or even making friends. His isolation seemed to extend to even his own family as he rarely had dinner with them and his own father Fugaku, couldn't figure him out. During the Nine-Tails' attack on Konoha, Itachi was left alone to take care of his infant brother Sasuke and promised to protect him no matter what. When the Nine-Tails found its way to the Uchiha district, Itachi ran with Sasuke, determined to get him safe from harm.
And another thing he says is that he wants to be a “catcher in the Rye” to save the kids lives so that they won’t fall off the cliff. I don’t think Holden is as perfect as he wants to be I think he only judges people and calls them a phony, because he probably does things like they do that he hates doing himself. There’s parts in the book were Holden acts like a phony and sometimes is a hypocrite , he contradicts himself, for example when he tells he hates the movies but then again he also tells that he likes attending them with her sister and with his friends. I can’t say Holden is a phony because he judges people in his mind and he admits he’s a liar, his attitude is like many people. Yes Holden does criticize people a lot but he never tells them and he never hurt anyone.
An example of this would be, “ I usually Lone it anyway”. Which shows his feelings on how he doesn’t care. Also when the reader imagines Ponyboy you get a lower class hoodlum image but when you read on Ponyboy doesn’t fit the Hoodlum stereotype as you find he is very intelligent as he has a high IQ and makes good grades but doesn’t like to show it as his older brother Darry expects a high grades from him. In addition Ponyboy admires his brother Sodapop as he
If brother hadn’t loved him so much; he would have been so concerned that Doodle would suffer, at school if he fit in (pg.350) “When Doodle was five years old, I was embarrassed at having a brother of that age who couldn't walk.” He thinks he can't be proud of himself if Doodle is disabled. He has the idea that physical disabilities are something to be ashamed of, and that a disabled person reflects shame on family members. (pg.346) “did not know then that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life and death.” Throughout the story Brother stresses the duality, or the double sidedness of pride. Brother's pride pushes him to give Doodle a life away from his rubber sheet on the bed. When Brother's obsession with turning Doodle into the "ideal" Brother goes too far,
I do love Lennie but its hard movin’ from ranch to ranch with him there all the time; 24/7. He’s always with me which means I can’t get no girl or nothin’ like that. Poor guy, don’t know no better. I told him if he ever gets in any trouble to come back to a spot in the brush. Lennie sure is bloody stupid though.
He was never a man to take the blame but rather say that his actions were just reactions of unfortunate events that others caused. Even though he too, along with Daisy, was not loyal to his partner, he never once admitted he was wrong. He would proceed to lollygag with Myrtle and come home to accuse Daisy of her unloyal actions towards him. A man with that much fortitude cannot be happy with whom he is or he would not be accusing anyone of anything.”…and as we drove away Tom was feeling the hot whips of panic. His wife and his mistress, until an hour ago secure and inviolate were slipping precipitately from his control.”(p.119) Tom knows that Daisy only married him for his money and although she has developed feelings for him, he fears that if he leaves her for Myrtle she will turn to Gatsby.
When Ian Belknap spoke Friday 5-6 period, it became one of my favorite presentations. He wasn't afraid to say anything , even giving an extremely offensive speech comparing Jesus Christ, and Santa Clause. But as much as I liked it, there was backlash. I heard many people saying that he took it too far and it probably offended a lot of people. I was arguing with people I didn't even know saying, that it wasn't the author's problem if people got offended.
“Everybody laughed and we had a good time… they gave me lots of drinks and Joe said Charlie is a card when he’s potted… Every body likes me” (Keyes pg. 356). This phrase from the book shows that Joe, Frank and George and possibly others have no respect or sympathy for Charlie. Charlie does not realize this. He thinks they are his friends.
