That is to say, Buddhists believe that God and the universe are equal. Buddhist do not give respect to any type of personal god as creator, but in contrast see god as an impersonal being without any type of humanistic characteristics. This being said, Buddhist sees the world as not really having a beginning, that everything has always existed and “is a part of god” (Consider, 2013, p. 65). Furthermore, for a Buddhist, the goal is to reach a state of nothingness known as Nirvana. For this reason, “It is only the end of suffering” (Powell, 1989, p. 28), and could even be looked at “as a waste of time to think about where we came from” (Lefebvre, 2011).
Buddhism does not believe in the existence of souls as well in the first cause, who we call God. Hinduism believes in Atman, that is the soul and Brahman, the Supreme Being. Hindus also believe in the 4 ashramas or stages in life. This is not followed in Buddhism. People can join the
The Practice of Buddhism in the United States University of Phoenix REL/133 June 16, 2008 Buddhism in the United States Buddhism comes in many shapes, sizes and flavors, and a Buddhist can be found almost everywhere in the USA. In our study of Buddhism, Team C has learned that Buddha was not originally a Buddhist; he did not even consider himself a member of any religion, but just as one who traveled around sharing to those would listen to some important truths about life. Even the best known Buddha in the world today, the Dalai Lama, have advised that one does not have to change his or her religion to benefit from the teachings of the Buddhism (Deva, 2006). The Origin of Buddhism Buddhism is a way
The Moral is that Buddhism is that everything is like god and god is everything. Christian worldview is that there is on personal God that they worship. The Destiny there again the Buddhism is tring to end the cycle of reincarnation and reach the state of nirvana. Now in the Christan worldview that you are to do right by God. The emphasis in Buddhism is on spiritual practice and lifestyle; following the Eight Fold Path and teachings of Buddha rather than adherence to a particular belief system or the development of a relationship with God. Practitioners can improve their karma and advance toward enlightenment through moral conduct, meditation practice, compassionate acts, the development of wisdom, and other guidelines prescribed by the Buddha's Eightfold Path. Can anyone become enlightened or achieve nirvana? Some Buddhists believe enlightenment is not restricted to those who practice Buddhism, that there are many paths to the truth. Others believe that rigorous dharma study and meditation are absolutely
Both Christianity and Buddhism had many factors that caused them to diffuse to other lands differently and some aspects that caused them to diffuse similarly. Buddhism originally started out as a way of life, a doctrine called the Four Noble Truths, calling for the understanding that all life includes suffering, that desire is the cause of suffering, that ending of desire is an end to suffering, and that if you live a life in accordance to the Eight Fold Path then that brings an end to desire, which in the end would lead them to nirvana, a state of personal salvation. Christianity, on the other hand was the belief that believing in a certain god would be your personal salvation. Also, Siddhartha Gautama, later called Buddha, announced his new doctrine and beliefs at Deer Park of Sarnath in 528 BCE, which after he had 45 years to spread his beliefs until he died in 483 BCE. Another contrast would be that many women took part in the spread/ diffusion of Christianity while mostly devout monks took part in spreading Buddhism.
Armstrong talks about how one must get rid of selfishness, greed, and self-preoccupation to access religion completely (34). She explained how the Greeks called this process “kenosis”, emptying (34). One thing that helped people to acquire ones real self was yoga. The yoga done then was very different from the yoga done today. The activities used to find one’s self was to demonstrate not breathing, standing completely still, and silencing all of your thoughts and one must complete other obstacles that includes not participating in any violence or anything that would be considered as selfish in order to enter a state of nothingness that’s supposed to be calm and exciting(35).
• Mormon believes in god. They do not believe in same sex marriages. They believe that all people have rights. • Sikh believes in one god. They do not say the pledge of allegiance.
For example in Buddhism the ultimate goal is nirvana. Nirvana means you will stop being reincarnated. You will be physically at peace. In Hinduism moksha is similar to nirvana. In
Taoism is the one I like least. It has too many vague mystical elements. It seems to me that both Buddhism and Taoism are inward looking, seeking enlightenment and self-improvement as the ultimate goal, with correct interactions with others serving as a means to achieving this self-fulfillment. But Confucianism is the opposite. It is outward looking, with the goal being to create a society of peace and justice, with self-improvement of individuals being the means to achieving that end.
