Coach Carter I feel that Coach Carter is a good movie because of the message the movie is trying to deliver to its audience. A coach who takes a job position in a High School where the statistics of High School graduates going to college after High School were very low. Coach Carter intentions on making these young men become responsible and prepare physically and mentally for their futures is his main goal as an educator. As a basketball coach he implements different techniques for his team to not only focus on just the team, but also on their academic performance. The way this educator works in this is film is using positive reinforcement on the students. Teaching the students that if they perform well academically they can also perform well in the athletic field also. If they perform well in both activities the response will recur as result of a positive consequence resulting from a positive behavior. In the movie Coach Carter is very firm on implementing punishment as a theory of learning as a consequence of his team actions. Punishment to this team is not playing basketball which is something they love doing and is an opportunity for many of the students to even go to college. The consequence of their behavior is the result of the punishment they will have for not performing well in school to be a part of this basketball team and as a consequence it will result as a punishment. Coach carter also used the theory of Shaping with his team by teaching the students to do something that they did not do usually. These students were used to cutting classes and fail and still be able to play sports. However, the coach would not allowed his team to perform poorly academically and still play basketball. As an educator his rules were far different from what these students were used to. The coach wanted students to learn something they were not used to do which was
