I also liked Lee’s intimate describing of his experience, and how some of his films had interesting elements to them because he was part of the black society. We don’t view his films in first person, which doesn’t make it appear simple, yet it still contains complex and structured ideas. These ideas derived from Lee’s own encounters with chaotic struggles he faced. From Lee’s films, I chose She’s Gotta Have It, School Daze, Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X and Jungle Fever. I choose these because they all revolve around a similar idea: Racism.
Film Noir - Double Indemnity Billy Wilder’s Double Indemnity is almost like a basic outline for the Film Noir genre. Film noir settings normally take place in city streets, railway stations, the underground, warehouses or even bars. These atmospheres create a scary feeling and with the big amount of space, it leaves many hidden mysteries or secrets. Other genres can be based nearly anywhere and still create the same impression, but with the use of equal lighting on the setting and characters the impression of Film Noir is made. The many Film Noir conventions through characters is seen in Double Indemnity.
The more the movie went into depth, the more stronger the similarities and differences presented themselves. As the stories of these heroes unraveled, comparing and contrasting the psyche, the brutality ,the moral and ethical conflicts in great war movies such as the “Lone Survivor”(Berg.2014), and “Apocalypse Now”(Coppola.1979), was not as hard as imagined. The psyche of a man in war is really captured in both these movies. Of the two movies,”Apocalypse now”() really captures a stronger sense of what war can do to a soldier’s mental status, one example of a deteering mind is Colonel Kurtz. This man reputation was one of the greatest to ever represent his country, he was the 4.0 kid who never did anything wrong and was on pace to be up at the very top of the ranks the military can offer.
Though the conflict between Friendly and Malloy is the climax of the film, Terry’s internal conflict has a greater significance as it creates the base for the building of Terry’s character, the main element and theme of the film which drives the film, questioning one’s morality, conscience and judgement. Terry displays his inner confusion throughout the film through his speeches, his actions and it shows an overall growth of the character, Terry Malloy. Terry Malloy’s conflict with Friendly definitely contributes to the film, however it does so to bring about the internal conflict that he has within himself, which has a greater significance in the film. His dispute with Friendly clearly displays his inner battle of morality – doing what is right and fighting for his own rights or doing what is wrong and being in the unceasing denial of his conscience. After witnessing the death of Charlie, his hatred and wrath heightened, wracked by guilt, Terry knew that he needed to avenge his brother.
Marvel continued its trend of making better villains, as Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger represents an impressive antagonist. Jordan conveys the anger and convictions of his character quite well, as screenwriters Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole make the excellent choice to have his character represent black anger and desires for militancy (more on that soon). Coogler, who also directed, brings one of the most noteworthy visual styles yet seen in the MCU to the film. Everything from the bright and exotic color palette to the traditionally African-influenced production design by Hannah Beachler and costuming by Ruth Cart makes this film stand out among its compatriots. Coogler and cinematographer Rachel Morrison also show off some flashy camera tricks here and there.
However all action films follow certain conventions such as having a romantic subplot where the protagonist falls in love with someone, there are always nearly weapons in an action film whether it be a gun or a bow an arrow, and most notably is the simple plot line of good against bad. Both Raiders and Bourne fit into the action genre due to their use of fast paced camera shots with close up of faces of characters helping to show emotion. When Indiana has to jump the gaping hole at the start it zooms in on his face to show desperation when pulling himself out. In Bourne there are close up multiple characters such as Alexander Conklin to show agitation and anger when talking to Bourne in the final scene explaining how he is a weapon of the USA. There are also establishing shots in the two films.
Braveheart vs. The Patriot- Compare and Contrast Paper In this essay I am going to explore and compare the differences and similarities between the movies The Patriot and Braveheart. Both movies are directed by and star Mel Gibson. Both Braveheart and The Patriot show gruesome war scenes filled with bloody deaths and heroic actions. These scenes were vital to the overall effect of the movies.
Quality is the way the director can incorporate the many layers of music, camera techniques, and style in film. The film must also present eloquent character development and create a mood that is appealing to the viewer. Also , the way the theme is displayed throughout the movie by means of camera styles and technique is essential to the overall feeling and understanding of the flick. The Godfather, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, is a very unconventional film about organized crime. However unconventional and strange the movie seems at first, it was a wonderful and engaging film to watch.
The social conflict theory applies to this movie the best out of these three theories. It states that in order for society to thrive, there needs to be constant interaction of conflict. This conflict in Mega Mind is obviously the conflict of good vs. evil. Once the good (Metro Man) is killed, there is no more until Mega Mind creates Titan. However, this gets out of control, as Mega Mind slowly turns into the good guy in the movie, rather than Metro man, and Titan is wreaking havoc.
Many composers represent conflict, even though you may not recognize it. Whether it’s a song about a breakup, a kid’s movie about princesses or a news article about last nights footy game.Conflict in the film freedom writers and the song pumped up kicks is shown by different techniques like camera shots, flashback, repetition and point of view. Freedom writers is heavily reliant on conflict as a theme, but to help put it into perspective uses a lot of techniques. One of these techniques is camera shots. In the film, camera shots are used to help the audience to understand the film better and make it interesting. You have to admit, a movie would be pretty boring if it only used one type of camera shot or angle the whole movie, right? One of the shots used in the film was the panning shot, used to show the conflict during the school fight, in one of Mrs. Gruwell’s first days.
