Rina Patel January 24, 2011 “Change Over Time Through Modes of Transportation” Transportation is a key tool to get from one place to another, whether it be a short distance or long. This mode of transportation has changed a lot over the years, from the wheel to jets, which can go beyond our planet. This first invention that helped to move things was the wheel which was invented by the Samaritans during 3,500 BC. After the wheel was created people started to open their minds and were able to create chariots that used horses to pull, then the engine came and from there the assembly line was created to build cars and many more things. The changes in the modes of transportation such as the wheel, cars, and planes have helped many people, societies and cultures of the world and continue to impact the world to this day. The most important invention to come to existence was the wheel because today it is used in many different ways to make our lives easier. When the wheel was invented it was intended to make transportation easier. During the early years of the wheel, chariots were used to get from one place to place. Chariots with the use of horses made it easy for the Romans and Greeks to use this wheel for war, races and hunting. The wheel wasn’t only used for transportation of people; water could be used with the wheel to make a source of energy that people could have used in their homes. The invention of the wheel led to the invention of many more things in the world. The invention of the wheel led Karl Friedrich Benz to build to first engine during 1885-1886 in Germany. This led to the car with a combustible engine which substituted for the horses that were used with the chariots. The wheel was still used with the car, and not only one or two but four. As knowledge continued to grow the expansion of the chariot to get from one place to another led to a vehicle
