Social media refers to the means of interaction among people around the world in which they share common interests among themselves in virtual communities and networks. Social media helps contact long-distance family and friends. It can make someone feel less shy, more outgoing and confident. But negative influence thrive on social media, risks of too much social media include: severe lack of face-to-face social skills, cyber bullying and lack of privacy. However, there are many ways to help children and teens use social media safely and appropriately.
Eddie Carbone and his wife Beatrice have brought up Eddie’ s niece Catherine like their own daughter. Eddie is a kind but strict guardian. He loves his niece but wants to be in control. In the first scene, he tells her that her new clothes are too sexy, then that she can’t take the job she wants. Many everyday people create social profiles as a way to connect with people in an instant. They create them thinking it’s something innocent and harmful and not fully understanding that it can back around and haunt you. Sometimes we post things “in the moment” and not realizing the consequences it can bring to us in the future. I feel that my Facebook account doesn’t represent me as a professional, but more of a student who posts, likes and shares articles, videos and pictures of my interest. I think that my social media accounts, would hinder my career as a professional because people will judge and have opinions on certain topics that are on the accounts and would not take me serious as a professional.
Rationale In my physical theater piece the dramatic meaning I am trying to demonstrate is that cyberbullying is just as harmful and painful as physical bullying. A lot of people don’t think that cyberbullying is as bad as physical bullying because there are no bruises and has no effect on our physical image. Although I’m trying to demonstrate that we do get bruises and broken self-esteem but we bear it on our souls. My inspiration came from the syllabus – Facebook ruins lives -. I usually see myself as a good person with high self-esteem and that I like helping people out. With this event it showed me that I really don’t care about community service and that I could live with not helping people except those close to myself. The Influence of Grandparents In the stories “Inspired Eccentricities” and “Spirit,” both by Bell Hooks, the main characters really take after their grandparent(s) and learn a lot from them despite what their parents might think. In “Inspired Eccentricities,” the daughter really looks up to Baba and Daddy Gus even though her mother tells her to ignore most everything that they say because she doesn’t want her daughter to end up like them. In “Spirit,” the daughter gets all of the spirit that she has from her grandmother, and since the dad does not like his kids having any spirit, he tries to break her of her spirit whenever she or any of her siblings does something wrong. “Inspired Eccentricities” is about a child who really looks up to her grandparents. She explains everything about her grandparents to us and how odd they are compared to normal people, but how much she loves them for that.
