In the five years before the ban, the murder rate fell from 37 to 27 murders per 100,000 people. In the five years after it went into effect, the rate rose back up to 35.” (Lott, Making Guns Less Available Does Not Reduce Gun Violence, 2011). The same situation also happened in Chicago. “Chicago has banned all handguns since 1982. But that handgun ban didn't work at all when it came to reducing violence.
Because they don’t deter crime as advertised. Between the years of 1980 to 2009 the number of adults under correctional supervision jumped from under two million to over seven million (Glaze, 2009). This overwhelms our prion systems with overcrowding and our state and federal budgets without a significant decline in crime. If all states decided to fully adopt the federal truth-in-sentencing laws and eliminate the parole system altogether then it would burst an already swelling prison population system. One argument is that if the parole system was ended then violent offenders release would not be contested but be automatic at the end of a set period of time (Butterfield, 1999).
However, local authorities often took measures to avoid rather than enforce segregation. For example, Albany closed parks and removed chairs from libraries rather
If you start collecting belongings or carry on what you’re doing there is a chance the fire may spread putting yourself and others at risk. Harold Holmes, the new banker in charge of the Reed account requests to see company books and after examining what Reed presented, decided to deny the increase in the Reed credit line. Additionally, Reed owes the bank in excess of $100,000 which Holmes has requested payment within 30 days. Holmes suggested changes Reed could make to make his business profitable again and be able to stay on top of debt. These changes included hiring a consultant to overlook the financial and inventory aspects of the business, and reducing inventory and account receivables to the industry average. Upon reviewing the balancer sheet, Holmes suggested accounts receivable being considerably reduced, since this was an area which was controllable.

Case Stud 8.4 – Old Smoke Writer: Sarah Morton Instructor: Professor Frederick J. Keil Course: Business Ethics – BUS 309 Date: November 30, 2011 * Explain how you would handle the situation if you were Charles Renfold. If I were handling the situation as Charles Renfold, I would first ask Darlene why she has never brought her smoking concerns to my attention before. And that maybe because she feels under the weather today, the smoke smell has heightened. I would express to her that Alice and Frank try to be considerate of her feelings by not smoking while she is in the room and that they also raise the windows to air out the room. I would also clarify to Darlene “that their state laws require companies to provide a smoke-free work area for employees who desire it; it doesn’t force companies to ban smoking all together” (Case Study 8.4: Old Smoke).

Smoking should be made illegal in Canada. There are many reasons why the illegalization of smoking would be a good thing and here are just a few, smoking alone causes approximately 40, 000 deaths in just Canada per year. Secondly, smoking wreaks havoc on the bank account, on average people spend hundreds on their smoking habits monthly. Lastly, smoking not only affects the smokers but it affects the children with family members or friends that smoke. Many smokers would argue that smoking is needed for society to function as proceeds do go to the government, but in actuality the lives of every Canadian citizen would be made better within a year of smoking becoming illegal.
Capital Renovation Proposal As soon as Lucy Morris assumed the management of the Merseyside plant in 2007 she easily discovered several that needed efficiency improvements in polypropylene production. The equipment was suffering of a deferral of maintenance for the last five years and the plant design was antiquated. Other improvements were to relocate and modernize tank cars unloading areas, refurbish the polymerization tank for quicker throughput and to renovate compounding plant in order to save energy. Her proposal for restructuring had an estimated cost of £12 million and they would have to shut the plant down for 45 days. This measure was a problem because considering the fact that the sister plant in Rotterdam was operating almost in full capacity and could be that the clients had to buy from another competitor during this period.
