Case Analyses The Dinteman Company manufactures industrial equipment and machines, and it is made up of many departments of production. The Dinteman Company has an extensive repair and maintenance (R&M) department to meet customers’ expectations when it comes to the services and equipment it provides. Recently the efficiency and communication between the R&M department and the production department is unsatisfactory, this has resulted in higher costs to the company. For this reason, the Diteman Company has decided to introduce a new system to meet every department’s needs. Data Items Raw facts about occurrences that have minimal to no meaning or organization are considered data (Bagranoff, Simkin, and Norman, 2008). In this case, amount of service requests, time estimates for service completion, the number of requested services, and cost for services to be completed are considered data. These all apply to both departments but are viewed differently based on the department. Asides all that data, the production department requires additional such as cost of supplies and parts. Work Order Distribution Requests are initiated by the production department, copies are sent to the R&M department for record keeping. Once R&M receives the requests, job completion costs, and time estimates are prepared and sends the documentation to the Production Department. Copies are kept by both of the departments, and final approval is in hands of the Production Department. Depending on the Production Department’s decision, if approved R&M will generate job schedule, and work order, if the request is denied R&M would adjust the requested services. When the job is complete, the work order is finalized by adding labor, materials, and supplies needed to complete the job. Copies are provided to the customer, the Production department, and the R&M department. Information
