His confidence and all-around great ability cause him to be a good leader by example. He puts in a ton of work and can make his team better by improving their work habits. However, Kobe has long been credited for being a little to isolated and held back to be a true leader. He allegedly was the main cause of the break up of the best duo in basketball, him and Shaq. Still, as a leader he makes his team work harder.

Both men had different upbringings which drove them to succeed, one authoritarian and the other pride in oneself. Both of these men became involved in basketball through the military, which in and of itself is a coercive power and a legitimate power. So it is no wonder that both have powers in common. The leadership perspectives that I found present in both coaches were a desire to lead, self-confidence, cognitive ability, and knowledge of the business. Wooden was notorious for his inspirational messages as well as his desire to succeed, making him a great leader. He created the “pyramid of success”, which is still widely utilized by individuals today. This consists of philosophical building blocks for winning at basketball and at life. Nick Saban has a plan for everything and he executes it. He has a detailed program for his players to follow. He keeps them focused all year long during the season and during the off season. He sets principles and values and gets people to buy into his way of thinking. He has high expectations from his players rather it is athletically, academically and personality.
Both coaches led their perspective teams to National and Division Championships but they leadership and management styles were different. Coach K was more supportive, caring, and nurturing toward his players; whereas Coach Knight was more volatile and explosive in his temperament he lacked the social skills to foster a positive environment for his players unlike Coach K. In the end both coaches will gone down in history, however no one can deny their record as coaches but their leadership styles will be debated for years to come as the list of best collegiate basketball coaches is compiled by basketball greats and sports
His leadership has made him seem one step ahead of both allies and competitors, which has given people the confidence to trust his leadership for many important roles he has been appointed in. In an interview with Oren Harari, Colin Powell stated his 18 principles for great leadership which applies to his success and when asked what you need for success, in two words he replied “hard work” showing his determination in any task at hand. Even after he retired he has still maintained his leadership to help others especially through the United Nations. This empowered me to serve my team mates and to inspire them to seek excellence in all their pursuits. I learnt through every session that though we gained dribbling and shooting skills, there was never a duplicate of the moves we were taught. So is life, we all acquire a certain skill at some point to help us overcome difficulties, yet our approach towards each challenge will always be different. I learnt to always be flexible. It was however unfortunate that upon our return from a basketball trip, we were involved in a fatal bus accident.
Being around other basketball players is where I feel at home. Shooting around with my team or just friends in general is something I always look forward to. The court is what I would call my community, the time spent with other players and the love we all share for this particular game is why I consider it my community. We can play for hours at a time. We have all faced our difficult moments on and off the court, but it is when we are all together working hard for that win I am most proud.
