Human Resource Management Project A college president is the backbone of the college. Cape Cod Community College was seeking “an experienced, visionary leader who embraces the community college mission”. The job description required a strong educational background and outlined some solid goals that needed to be achieved. A large list of ideal characteristics comprised most of the profile. I believe they have found them in Mr. John L. Cox, Ed. D. The other candidates gave it a valiant effort, but, fell a bit short of the undertaking. First, we’ll start off with the preliminary interviews. The room was relaxed, with small groups joking and talking amongst themselves. Most of what was defined in the job description for president of Cape Cod Community College was the same as what was expected at MassBay Community College, which just recently held their own presidential search. It goes to show you that some of the core values we rely on in a president are universal in any educational institution. “A visionary educator” can mean one thing to the candidate and another to the HRM. I believe more goals and qualifications should have been outlined in the presidential profile because anyone could believe they possess the qualities needed to attain this position. The Human Resources Manager had a lot to think about upon these interviews and the entire hiring process. I was unaware who was the HRM at the first interview I attended. I thought their role would have been move dominant than sitting in the corner. The HRM seemed very impartial at all the interviews I attended which was nice to know that no one had a clear advantage. This must have been nerve racking for HR because it none of these people possessed the qualities desired, then this process would have to be started all over again.
