Our Health Care System is Breaking Down The Canadian healthcare system affects each and every citizen of this country, and lets face the facts, it is slowly crumbling. The hospitals are short staffed, there’s not enough equipment or supplies for patients, and there’s consistent overcrowding. These are just a few of the issues that must be dealt with efficiently in order to remain enjoying our standards of living. Canada has a health care system that is already paid for through taxes, including both income and sales tax. All Canadian citizens are covered, and they can choose to see any doctor of their preference, anywhere in the country, without having to deal with co pays or deductibles. Some things, unfortunately, are not covered, those include: optometry, dentistry and outpatient prescription drugs. Most people have private insurance to cover those services, but some less fortunate individuals struggle to pay for them out of pocket. Many of these elderly people have prolonged life expectedly due to the increase of medical knowledge that keeps their longevity more than it used to. Many live a lot longer due to medications, treatments, and excellent nursing care. A huge problem with our medical system is a shortage of nurses. There is a lack of permanent positions in the health care field, only casual positions. Many nurses have to work in at least a few different facilities just to earn enough money to live comfortably in our current society. The nurses then get called on a short shift at a different facility but have to refuse the work because they are already working else
