Technology in health care has made it possible to extend and particularly better the lives of people with chronic disabilities. For example, arrhythmic patients are living longer than they did before due to technology in health care. Currently a device called an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) can be placed in the heart to help prevent cardiac arrest. Without the device, people at high risk of sudden cardiac death only have a 5% survival rate. This compares to the 98% survival rate they have with the device implanted. Furthermore, people with diabetes were earlier an even larger burden in the health care system. As it was more difficult to monitor your blood glucose levels, more people were being subject to the complications of the disease. At the time, many technologies exist that make it possible to monitor these signs very easily at home. Financially, this helps the patients, who already have outrageous medical bills, from having to spend the money to drive to be able to have access to these resources. In summary, this prevents them from having to spend as much time and money in hospitals, where they are not truly comfortable. In
