Melissa Cen 7D Portfolio #3: Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 by Bach In the future I would like to become a fashion designer. I would need to have my design portfolio and my résumé ready. I would need my design portfolio ready because, I would need to show my audience my design ideas and aspirations. I would need my résumé ready because, I would be required to show all of my former job experiences. Bach was born on March 21, 1685, in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany, he had a many famous ancestors who were also musicians. Then, he had many different organist positions during the early 18th century, also known as the 1700s, creating famous pieces such as the "Toccata and Fugue in D minor." Some of his best-known pieces are the "Mass in B Minor," the "Brandenburg Concertos", and "The Well-Tempered Clavier." Bach died in Leipzig, Germany, on July 28, 1750. Today, he is considered one of the greatest European composers of all time. Between 1719 and 1721, Bach made six concertos for Christian Ludwig, the Margrave of Brandenburg. It is most likely that Bach composed the concertos over several years while working, at Köthen, a German city. Since the King Frederick William I of Prussia was not a significant enthusiast of the arts, Christian Ludwig did not have enough musicians in his Berlin ensemble to perform the concertos. The full piece was left unused in the Margrave's library until Ludwig's death in 1734. The Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 may have been one of the last to be written. It's a concerto using four major instruments - trumpet, recorder, oboe, and violin. The writing is difficult, but beautiful. The work follows the Italian concerto grosso pattern, which was a style of the Baroque era of music. The solo group's music was accented with tutti outbursts for the strings.
