Some other means are written letters, telephone calls, emails, picture cards and even interpreters. Also sometimes the best ways of communication are the old fashioned ways like face to face spoken communication. By using different means of communication it can empower individuals to promote their own rights and views. There are also lots of different needs that have to be met as well as lots of different ways to communicate. I consider communication to be successful when the desired objective is attained. All communication has a purpose, whether to inform, to convince or to serve some other purpose; communication is what ties all departments within our care home together. Everyone is different and should be treated individually; you learn very quickly people’s individual communication styles. You are dealing with a wide range of personalities and abilities and your own communication style has to deliver to a diverse group with differing skill sets, and communication abilities. My level of communication within my job role is of extreme importance with regards to the client who should be at the heart of all communication around any establishment or company.
As for values, there are many that could be closely similar to that of hearing people, while some could be completely different. There are a few of the aspects of a deaf person’s way of life are aspects that would never normally be used by hearing people, such as the importance of deaf schools over mainstreaming schools, cochlear implants, ASL being the dominant language, learning more than one language rather than solely English, and deaf clubs over mainstreaming social activities, interpreters and sign language, although some hearing people choose to learn sign language, and occasionally even become interpreters. Relying on body language are examples of values of the deaf culture that can also be used by hearing people, but are not used as much by them. Some of these values are used almost as much by hearing people as they are by the deaf, sometimes just as much, and sometimes even more. These include vibration alerting systems, video chatting, captioning for movies or television shows, and texting.
Even though we still have a long way to go before deaf culture is accepted as it should be, without these brave people, deaf culture wouldn’t have the accomplishments it has today. Deaf people have accomplished many things like having schools for the deaf, an established and recognized form of communication, and deaf teachers among other things. As a hearing person, one does not understand what it really means to be a deaf person in a hearing society because they haven’t experienced

By talking and listening to the client, as well as observing them, their individual modalities can be assessed. Every one of us is subject to one of the following modalities, and some are more prominent than others. It is also not uncommon for an individual to be susceptible to more than one; Visual (Sight), Auditory (Hear), Kinaesthetic (Touch), Olfactory (Smell), Gustatory (Taste). “Olfactory” and “Gustatory” - sometimes regarded as secondary, but can have a very strong
It is very important to know the difference between verbal and non-verbal communication. We utilize verbal communication every single day and yet we still have problems understanding one another. As we speak the actual words when we communicate, that is verbal communication and verbal communication only makes up 10 percent of the messages that we are trying to send to one another. The rest of the 90 percent is actually non-verbal communication and believe it or not most of the times we can understand non-verbal messages more than verbal. These non-verbal messages that we send are eye contact, facial expressions, voice tone, rate of speech, silences and pauses, hand gestures, body positioning, and body distance.
