Biometric Databasing CIS/217 Jan 08, 2013 Biometric Databasing Ever wanted to know where all the finger prints of the bad guys the United States (US) have encountered overseas goes? While there are multiple databases people can go to for this information, the prevailing database has been the Biometric Identity Information Resource (BIR) database. BIR has changed the way you research information on individuals and will continue to mold into what he customer wants by requirements submitted to the housing agency. The history of BIR began with the Iraq envision in 2003. These common searchable attributes include but are not limited to: name, height, weight, sex, date of birth, tribal affiliation, place of birth, transaction control number (random generated number associated with every enrollment) and other searchable attributes affiliated with the person you are attempting to research. While being in a Middle Eastern country, you quickly realize how common a Mohammad Abu can become making the other searchable attributes much more needed and important. After making your selection of the identity you are attempting to research, you can view the previous interactions with the US and partnered countries we currently share biometric enrollments. These are important for multiple reasons. Biometric enrollments are taken for access to the bases overseas and allow the monitoring personnel an accountability of who is coming and going rather than knocking a name off a list with whom that individual is claiming to be. Having grown up seeing the technology of tomorrow utilizing retina scans and finger prints to enter a building was fiction, is now just an everyday occurrence to enter a building or even accessing a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop. Background: As far as everyday use, I as an analyst with Department of Homeland Security utilize BIR on a daily occurrence to conduct background investigations on people applying for immigration benefits within the Customs and Immigration Services (CIS) and the United States Department of State visa program.
