“Bicycle Safety” There are many steps bicycle riders can take to make sure they remain safe while riding. Having the proper equipment will prevent injuries. Where a person rides can also be the difference between a safe ride or a disaster. How a person rides their bike will also keep them safe. These few suggestions will help keep bicycle riders safe. A rider must have the proper equipment to ride safety. One important piece of equipment is the helmet. A helmet should be worn at all times to protect the rider from head injury in case of a fall. The helmet must fit the rider’s head properly to offer protection. Lights will also protect the rider and should be working whenever a person rides at night. The lights should be bright enough so the rider can see and be seen. Where a person rides can be dangerous. Riding in the bike lane can keep a rider safe, but these are some things to consider. A rider should stay in the bike lane to avoid getting hit by a car. It is important to ride in the same direction as traffic to avoid accidents. Some riders will ride in streets where there are no bike lanes. In this case riders need to watch for pot holes. Riders should also not be using their headphones so that they can here street noise such as sirens. Use signals, control speed, staying safe on a bicycle could depend on how the rider rides their bike. Using hand signals is a good way for the rider to communicate with traffic. Signals inform the car behind the rider of a change of direction. Signals also let pedestrians and oncoming traffic know of the rider intentions. Riders who control their speed have a better chance of staying safe. Riding too fast might result in an accident. If a rider goes to fast it could risk injury to themselves or others.
