JUNE 2015 Abstract In order for school leadership to be successful in commanding loyalty, expand their influence, improve commitment, maximize compliance and reduce resistance they must; be considerate and supportive to the teachers, involve them, be authentic, demonstrate autonomy, demonstrate influence, stay calm and cool in difficult situation and avoid the use of authoritarian behavior. They must also avoid frequent use of coercive power and avoid the use of power and authority for their personal interests instead use organizational power to develop individual power and use personal power to motivate and increase commitment, maximize compliance and reduce resistance. For school leadership to be effective and sustainable, it is also important to empower teachers and inculcate the culture of shared decision making and delegation.
