The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has committed a further $750m to a global fund to combat AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. “These are tough economic times, but that is no excuse for cutting aid to the world’s poorest,” said Microsoft founder Bill Gates at the World Economic Forum (WEF). Gates has said that the rich should pay a greater share to get the US’s economic house back in order, but has defended capitalism as an economic system. Gates wrote his first software program at the age of 13. In high school he helped form a group of programmers who computerized their school’s payroll

However, Roosevelt was facing a much worse scenario with an unemployment rate of nearly 25% after the stock market crash of 1929. President Roosevelt not only passed one bill, but by March 9th, 1933 within his first hundred days in office he was able to
Origins Barack Obama, full name Barack Hussein Obama II, was born on August 4th in 1961 in Hawaii, to Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Sr. Obama’s parents met in 1960 in a Russian language class at the University of Hawaii where his father was a foreign student on scholarship. The couple married in 1961, their son was born just six months later but soon separated and divorced again just 3 years later when Barack was two years old. Barack Obama Sr. remarried and returned to Kenya, visiting his son in Hawaii only once in 1971 before he died in a car accident in 1982. Barack’s mother, Ann Dunham, was remarried to an Indonesian student called Lolo Soetoro, who was attending college in Hawaii. In 1967, the family moved to Jakarta, where Obama’s half-sister Maya Soetoro was born.
As a U.S citizen and tax payer, I believe the government should worry more about the welfare of our people and the way they live. Instead, it seems the only thing they are concerned about is, health care is costing them too much money, taxes need to be higher, and they want to dump more money into the war on terrorism, yet they still think they deserve a pay raise. The United States Military is a very respectable and honorable organization, that puts their lives on the line every day, and sacrifices the most beloved things in their life. Congress needs to save a little money, so why not stop paying our soldiers while they are fighting a war? Two weeks later, congress gets a raise, because they feel their jobs are more important than anyone else in this country.
True North Book Report Jerry Zabokrtsky Grand Canyon University Book Report: True North, Discover your Authentic Leadership True North was authored by Bill Georg with Peter Sims and the book has a simple premise for leadership: understand your own life story (George & Sims, 2007). For example, Starbucks' founder Howard Schultz was forever changed at the age of 7 when a broken ankle caused his father to lose his deliveryman job and consequently his family's health insurance and economic security. Schultz's memories of his father's lost health care led to Starbucks becoming the first U.S. company to provide health insurance for every employee, including those working as few as 20 hours a week. The book True North is filled with stories about change and this report will only cover a few. Bill George, former CEO of Medtronic, and co-writer Peter Sims interviewed 125 executives, ages 23 to 93.
According to the author, “education is important, but a college education is not the only path to success,” (Mather 20). I agree with Mather that in our society a formal college education is one path to success, but there are many other alternative paths that can lead to success as well. I am one hundred percent certain that as of today there is no law that says everyone has to finish school and go to college to be successful. My father did not go to college and yet he is still the chairman of a big copper wires company. He went straight to the labor force at the age of fifteen because my family had lost everything after the Fall of Saigon.
Franklin, his father, was a successful lawyer who collected money from mortgages. Emily, his mother, was an abolitionist who supposedly was part of the “underground railroad”. Frederick was the youngest of eleven children. He attended many different levels of private schooling, eventually making his way into the Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. After finishing there, he was accepted into the Harvard Law School; being expected to follow in the footsteps of his father.
Going back to President Obama’s first run for the presidency, he used his Mom sickness as the means to better the cost of medical so others would not go without. I have looked up different prices of Obama care and they are harsh. Reading over the different rules and regulations of the Obama care in 2015, it states that the less you make, then the less you’re going to pay (Obama care Facts, no date). I did a calculation and just for my husband and me, these are the results I had provided to me. Your results shown are for a Silver plan Your income is 127% of the Federal Poverty Level 2.82% of your income is the max amount you have to pay towards your health insurance as defined by the ACA Your Monthly Cost Eligible Subsidy $557 Your Eligible Subsidy $510 Your Adjusted Monthly Cost $47 With these
She taught American history to eighth-graders in the junior high section of Creston, the high school that served the north end of Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was the fall of 1944. Franklin D. Roosevelt was president; American troops were battling their way across France; Joe DiMaggio was still in the service; the Montgomery bus boycott was more than a decade away, and I was a twelve-year-old black newcomer in a school that was otherwise all white. My mother, who had been a widow in New York, had married my 2 stepfather, a Grand Rapids physician, the year
