Most of us understand the difference between being racist and being politically correct, but most of us let our experiences within our own culture shape how we view people. Judging people is easy to do and quite commonly done unknowingly, but it is when we put our prejudice out on the table that our true colors shine through. I do believe that we will all learn from our mistakes and we will all be judged equally to our own judging. This film showed the very worst of people in today’s society yet also showed American civilization at its best. This film was a “Crash” of intercultural differences and racism; however there is hope in the end when most come to terms with their stereotyping problem, and that is no
Misconceptions of Dora on Cannery Row Many people think that the work Dora does is dirty, selfish, and sinful. What many readers have failed to notice is that she gives immensely to the community, only works the girls who want to work, and is very caring to the people around her. Unless we change our view of people because of their line of work, such as prostitution, we will continue to have trouble seeing who people really are on the inside, and what morals they value. What Steinbeck is trying to show in this novel is that people shouldn’t be judged on their way of life. We should also strive to look deeper into people, and we might just find that there are factors that make them a better person than ourselves.
Everybody might think she’s crazy but I think she’s a legend, from blue lipstick to glitter cannons Ke$ha has it all, but most importantly she knows how to be herself. - If there is someone that has ever done the craziest things ever imagined I think that person would most likely be Ke$ha. - Would you ever write a dollar sign in your name to symbolize how poor you once were and make a joke out of it? Most people think that if you act like something you’re not more people will like you, I love Ke$ha because she doesn’t care what people think of her and if they like her or not, she’s always herself no matter what. Everybody might think she’s crazy but I think she’s a legend, from blue lipstick to glitter cannons Ke$ha has it all, but most importantly she knows how to be herself.
One of the few things we cannot avoid or assume to say is that every particular race has a stereotype. What is a stereotype? In my definition, it is a statement established by a particular race about someone’s nationality or sexual orientation
People judge other people due to their dress, their skin color, the way they talk, their hair style or the music they listen to and gather these individuals into a view called a stereotype. People who differ from the majority in any given society are deemed different and are viewed that way by the majority of a society. Labeling Theory deals with this notion of stereotypes as it relates to a societies definition of deviance. "Deviance is not a quality of the act the person commits, but rather a consequence of the application by others of rules and sanctions to an offender. The deviant is one to whom that label has successfully been applied; deviant behavior is behavior that people so label."
Druggies are stereotype by their actions because they don’t obey authority, get in trouble, and don’t focus in school. The movie Pineapple Express shows this stereotype because their stupid and don’t obey the law. Druggies are stereotyped by their appearance because they smell, and don’t care how they look. In the movie Pineapple Express shows this because the main characters smell and dress how they want and don’t care. Another stereotype of druggies is their dialogue because they don’t speak proper English, laugh at everything and cuss all the time.
Even if after the initial judgment takes place and their base opinion is changed, because this person is ‘different from the norm’ the initial judgment did occur, and that person did assume personality qualities to that person for know reason other than race, and personal beliefs that people have about that specific ‘kind of person.’ I have met people of all different races who judge others by their skin color or by their culture unintentionally. Racism is everywhere and it is a hidden evil that people choose to ignore for the time being. Most people in today’s society are at least slightly racist, probably on accident. Which is awful, because the concept of race is something that the human mind created, and not something that has any truth to it, because there is only one race, the human
When being around a certain group of people, people start judging you by who you associate yourself with. African Americans are a cultural group that is guilty by association through gang affiliation, physical appearance, and their economic status. Ali and her family were judged on their cultural group, by the people they associate themselves with
These labels that are constantly put on us drive me insane. There is so much hidden in our family that non-members do not see. In addition to all of these stereotypes that are put on me and the others in my group, I do not like to show people that it bothers me, but these stereotypes have really given me a negative outlook on these people. The stereotypes that have been put on me have made me put stereotypes back on these other people. I now look at the outsiders as "city slickers" or I call them lazy and tell them that they have no discipline.
Secondly, ‘perfumed’ is rubbish! The ships were renowned for smelling so bad in the hold. This smell was the mixture of blood, excrement, vomit and body odour. The slave traders/crew avoided going under deck at all costs, so to lie and say that the ‘quarters were perfumed’ was awful and hypocritical. Why would the traders/crew go below deck if they hated all those there and only if they had to?
