For such multidisciplinary teams to work effectively with commonly shared philosophy, values and ethos must be firmly established (Pugh 2006:147). The EYFS framework makes it clear that multi-agency working is imperative to daily practice. Working alongside professionals allows a deeper understanding of children providing them with better learning and care opportunities; this is particularly important for children with special educational needs. It is only through functioning together those working with children can provide a coherent service that generally meets the child’s and family needs (Effective practice: Multi-agency Working 2007). However for services to interlink with each other good relationships are key to success which generally takes time and resources to set up.
Assignment 013- Understand Partnership Working in Services for Children and Young People Task A Why is it important for children and young people that you work in partnership with the following people/groups? Parents, carers and guardians This partnership is very important because parents or carers need to trust the nursery and staff that work there. They will expect the best quality of care for their child. Partnering well with the parent or carer of the child will increase good communication including sharing important information regarding the child needs, wants and development. Building trust with parents or carers will result in them knowing that the nursery is a very good place for their child as it offers a great amount of help and support, which is especially important for new parents or carers.
Children will lear and develop when ether is a friendly environment with people they trust. As a role model gain trust its important ,so children and young people can be confident to talk to you,be confident and focus and develop the selfs. Every child is different so we should adapt the way we communicate to fulfil the individual needs. Physical development- How children gain control of their bodies, use equipment’s successfully and how they learn to use equipment. Personal, Social and Emotional development- How children understand who they are and what they can do, understand themselves in relation to others and understand their feelings as well as others. Children will learn how to calm themselves, managing anger and aggressive feelings. Motivation – Pupils are able to become active and enthusiastic in their learning, perhaps taking small steps to achieve a set goal. Helping children to concentrate on positive learning skills and to overcome distractions or behaviour issues, children can also learn how to evaluate their learning for the future. Pupils can also learn how to have a positive approach to overcoming mistakes of disappointments. Empathy – Children learn how to recognise others feelings, knowing how their own views/opinions could affect others.
Normally, (for numeracy and literacy) I support the higher ability group for Numeracy due to the 1-2-1 pupil I support, and the middle group in Literacy whilst keeping an eye on the other rest of group (just in case, but they are normally competent to work independently). When working with a table or a group, there will normally be pupils who are at different levels. That is why it is so important to be able to modify and adapt activities to enhance learning experiences. One important contribution whilst the learning activity is delivered is to ensure that learners understand the learning tasks and to reinforce the teaching points from the input. Being aware of the needs of pupils and the level of support they require, whether learning or personality needs.
Now I know that understanding the stages of child development helps parents and teachers know what to expect and how to support the child during growth and development. I am inspired by so many different programs offered to support children and their families by accessing them to quality health care, good nutrition, and education. Also the availability of programs to protect children and their families from harm, abuse and discrimination and to help them reach their full potential. This is so the practitioner can act on the advice and put it onto the planning. This advice can have more experience in different aspects of the child’s life. This then helps with the care and learning needs of all children as if the child has a disability which affects their learning. The teacher will have to get another professional in that knows what they are doing to help care for the child and help with the child’s learning. This means that the child will be getting a full learning experience and understand the lesson because it is easier for them.
I feel it is important to take into account the personalities of the children, as learning may be inhibited if one child is particularly domineering or intimidating. It is also necessary to look at the subject being taught and be flexible in the grouping of children. I personally feel that for subjects such as Literacy and Numeracy, where there is pressure for academic success the children should be split into ability groups. I feel by working in ability groups, the children are still able to support each other and there is still a hint of Vygotsky’s ZPD theory being practised, as there is still a range of abilities within an ability group and the more able of one particular ability group, can support the others in the group. It is important to remember that no one child is the same as another, even if they are classified as being of similar ability.
