Unit 5- Support Learning Activities L.O 1.1.Explain how a learning support practitioner may contribute to the planning, delivery and review of learning activities As a learning support practitioner, I don’t have a great deal of contribution when it comes to the long term planning of the Curriculum. At the beginning of the week, I always get a weekly planning schedule for Literacy and Numeracy. However, more often than not, the planning and differentiation of tasks do not always go according to plan. This is where the deliverance and reviewing of the learning activities become so important. Normally, (for numeracy and literacy) I support the higher ability group for Numeracy due to the 1-2-1 pupil I support, and the middle group in Literacy whilst keeping an eye on the other rest of group (just in case, but they are normally competent to work independently). When working with a table or a group, there will normally be pupils who are at different levels. That is why it is so important to be able to modify and adapt activities to enhance learning experiences. One important contribution whilst the learning activity is delivered is to ensure that learners understand the learning tasks and to reinforce the teaching points from the input. Being aware of the needs of pupils and the level of support they require, whether learning or personality needs. There are many learning activities which require collaboration between pairs or groups of children. It is important that we encourage groups to work together in groups and pairs. Managing behaviour can be a crucial contribution when it comes to learning activities. It is up to the teaching assistants to monitor the behaviour and make sure that boundaries and expectations do not slip. All it takes is for one pupil to disrupt a whole tables learning. It is essential that there are no disruptions or interruptions
